PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION
The position will be within the Shop Department and is responsible for performing general fabrication to manufacture new or replacement components to support power generation. The Shop team supports a culture of continuous improvement through training and process improvements while maintaining high standards for quality and safety. This position may require up to 20% travel to facilitate repairs on-location for our generating fleet.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Welding
Perform manual and semi-automatic welding with a variety of materials and processes to ASME code such as:
Oxy/acetylene
Fabrication
Work with various materials to construct and assemble metal structures from blueprints and/or engineered drawings using the following equipment:
- Overhead bridge cranes
- Semi-automated saws
- CNC Press Brake
- CNC Plasma Table
General hand tools and fixturing equipment
Technical Skills
- Interpret and understand prints and assembly drawings
- Geometric dimensioning / tolerancing
- Shop math to set up equipment and perform quality checks.
Attention to detail and quality
Perform new fabrication and repair work on plant equipment such as:
- Pumps, Gearboxes, Fans, intake screens, piping systems and Valves
- Perform disassembly and inspection for part repair or reverse engineering and replacement.
- Sound mechanical maintenance practices
Adhere to conduct of maintenance, safety standards and established maintenance standards.
Safely perform rigging and lifting tasks, operate shop cranes and forklifts.
This role can be filled at Associate, Mid-level or Senior level. Please see minimum qualifications list below for each level
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Level I
Associates Degree in Power Plant Technology, Engineering Technology, or Electronics
OR
HS Diploma with minimum of 12 months of trade or technical experience in Power Plant Technology or relevant field experience
OR
Relevant Vocational Technical High School diploma with 6 months of Shop Experience at Fort Smallwood
- Successfully complete the training requirements and time in job requirements for the position including previously passing the MASS test
- Valid driver's license and access to an insured vehicle
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a power plant environment that includes climbing and walking long distances.
- Exposed to heat with reduced stay times, dust, smoke, dirt, high noise areas, confined and cramped work areas, and a nuclear power plant environment including Radiation Dose Exposure.
- Works at high elevations on ladders and scaffolds.
- Works shift work or weekends as required.
- Perform tasks inside radiological controlled areas.
- Maintains nuclear qualifications IAW CGS Specific training program.
- Maintain Radiation Protection Qualification and training, including respirator qualifications as needed
- Ability to obtain unescorted nuclear plant access
- Basic computer skills
- Good oral and written communication skills
This position may require 20% travel within company nuclear and Non-nuclear plant fleet
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Level II
Associates Degree in Power Plant Technology, Associates Degree in Power Plant Technology, Engineering Technology,
or
Electronics with minimum of 18 months of trade or technical training in Power Plant Technology
- Successfully complete the training requirements and time in job requirements for the position including previously passing the MASS test
- Valid driver's license and access to an insured vehicle
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a power plant environment that includes climbing and walking long distances.

5 years&rsquo experience in Maintenance Tech II or equivalent years of experience with trade or technical training in Power Plant Technology or relevant field experience

- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to work on cross-functional teams on major projects while adhering to the conduct of maintenance and established maintenance standards and practices.
- Drafting experience: AutoCAD/Inventor/Fusion360
- Experience in machining environment, or other crafts adjacent to fabrication.
