Job Summary:
As the Manufacturing Operations Manager, you will lead the people and processes associated with the production of contract manufactured precision machined aerospace components. Without compromise to achieving the highest-level safety, quality compliance, and customer expectations, the role will embody HORST core values, lead by example, and drive operational excellence. Key elements of the role will be the growth of the workforce, optimization of processes to eliminate waste, and an ambition to bring fresh innovative solutions to growth limiters.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
- Direct and oversee the day-to-day operations of the workforce that does CNC Swiss screw machining, turning, milling, thread rolling, and grinding. along with the associated secondary operations - deburring, cleaning, part marking, and material handling.
- Lead the development of the workforce through headcount planning, hiring, training, coaching, and mentoring. Leverage tools such as training matrix, development plans, performance management and career tracking, to ensure the engagement and growth of the workforce. Resolve employee issues when necessary.
- Measure productivity metrics such as set-up time, production run-time efficiencies, WIP velocity, and first pass yield, amongst others, via the ERP system to drive/monitor performance sustainment and/or improvement initiatives.
- Develop schedules and capacity plan that optimize resource utilization, including manpower, equipment, and materials, to meet operational goals. Manage both visual management and ERP systems to navigate job planning.
- Promote innovation and initiatives for process improvements, employee satisfaction, productivity enhancements and waste reduction. Leverage lean principles, 5S, and visual management systems for optimal job flow and work standards.
- Proactively ensure safety of entire workforce through robust protocols and training.
- Enforce quality and compliance policies according to customer and industry regulations.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in technical or industrial field such as engineering, manufacturing science, mathematics or business. Operation Management concentration a bonus. Progressive career growth, with training/certifications commensurate with degree also considered.
- Expertise leading manufacturing operations, specifically a workforce that operates CNC machining work centers. Previous experience in contract manufacturing in a high mix, low volume setting is a plus.
- Applied knowledge in lean and continuous improvement preferred.
- Passion for building teams, motivating workforce, teaching, and resolving issues, with a selfless pursuit of driving team-based performance and results.
- Adept at making the connection of production metrics to business needs, teaching awareness to employees, empowering the attainment of goals and objectives.
- High comfort with the measurement and monitoring of daily/weekly/monthly performance metrics. Frequent interaction with an ERP/MRP systems to monitor production, view status of job orders, track performance, gather data and make decisions will be necessary.
- Strong analytics to understand operational inefficiencies, driven to find a better way, and project management skills to implement solutions.
