The National Health Service Core (NHSC) Loan Repayment Program is open to licensed primary care medical, dental, and mental and behavioral health providers who are employed by accredited sites.

Health Equity Specialist Pay Range:
Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education and experience as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Health Equity Specialist Summary: The Health Equity Specialist at Klamath Basin Behavioral Health plays a pivotal role in supporting our mission of providing compassionate mental health care to the community. This position focuses on promoting health equity and reducing disparities in accessing mental health services at Klamath Basin Behavioral Health (KBBH). It’s a unique opportunity to contribute to initiatives prioritizing equitable care access. This position will collaborate with our teams, community partners, and stakeholders, the Health Equity specialist will identify, address, and monitor disparities. This position helps to foster a more inclusive and culturally competent healthcare environment, ultimately influencing how KBBH delivers services and how clients access them.
Health Equity Specialist Education and Experience:Must meet the following qualifications:
- Master’s degree in public health, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field and/or demonstrated lived experience equivalence.
- Strong understanding of health equity principles, social determinants of health, and disparities in mental health care.
- Demonstrated experience of 2 years or more of interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
- Experience in an analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and use it to inform decision-making.
- Experience working in health equity in a mental, physical, or public health setting.
- Experience or training in program development, community engagement, or advocacy related to health equity is highly desirable.
Health Equity Specialist Responsibilities:
Equity Analysis and Assessment:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of existing mental health programs, policies, and practices to identify potential barriers, disparities, and inequities.
- Collaborate with relevant teams to collect and analyze demographic and utilization data to understand and propose solutions to barriers, disparities, and inequities in service access and outcomes.
- Work with appropriate stakeholders to reduce barriers to access within current Oregon Administrative Rules (OARs), contractual requirements, or other obligations, and advocate for change to those requirements if they continue to promote barriers.
Program Development:
- Design and implement new initiatives prioritizing health equity, cultural competency, and inclusivity in mental health services.
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams to integrate equity-focused strategies into program development, service delivery, and client engagement.
- Develop educational materials and resources for staff and clients to promote awareness and understanding of health disparities and cultural competence.
Community Engagement:
- Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, advocacy groups, and local stakeholders to enhance collaboration and alignment on health equity goals.
- Represent the organization at community events, workshops, and meetings to raise awareness of our commitment to health equity and gather input for improvement.
Training and Education:
- In collaboration with the Staff Training and Development Specialist and the DEI Council, deliver training sessions to staff members on topics related to cultural competence, unconscious bias, and strategies for providing equitable care.
- Collaborate with clinical teams to integrate cultural considerations and culturally sensitive practices into treatment plans.
Data Monitoring and Reporting:
- Work with the Quality and Data team to establish metrics to measure social determinants of health.
- Establish mechanisms for ongoing data collection and analysis to track progress in reducing disparities and improving health equity.
- Use data to work towards consistent and equitable outcomes across the client population.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:Valid Oregon driver’s license, insurable driving record. Personal automobile insurance is required if clients are transported, or the employee conducts any agency business using their personal vehicle.
