Position Summary: The Lab Supervisor is responsible for organizing and directing the daily activities of the laboratory. Responsible for supervising laboratory personnel and acts as point of contact for questions or issues. Reviews and edits reports detailing results and conclusions, applications, and methodology. Is responsible for maintenance and safety of the lab and equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Lab Supervisor:
- Oversee and coordinate the safe practices and activities of the Laboratory team, in compliance with company’s policies, procedures, and vision.
- Reviews and edits reports detailing results and conclusions, applications, and methodology.
- Conducts routine maintenance and safety checks on lab equipment to ensure working order.
- Provide necessary daily direction, mentoring, scheduled and unscheduled performance discussions, and any other necessary guiding directives and interactions with the team.
- Maintains safe and clean work environment
- Educate and supervise personnel on the use of all control points, equipment, and resources; maintains compliance with established policies and procedures
- Remains knowledgeable of required personnel related guidelines, policies and procedures of the company and take action necessary to ensure adherence.
- Work with the production team to solve technical challenges and support advancement of projects.
Chemist 2:
- Assists with receipt and inspection of raw materials and the order and stocking of materials and equipment.
- Conduct research and quality control tests on current products as well as future projects.
- Design, conduct, and interpret complex experiments.
- Develop new and/or improved testing methods and procedures for current and future projects to ensure updated compliance standards are met.
- In conjunction with the Formulations Chemist, instruct and direct Junior lab employees in processes, testing, and other daily activities of the lab
- Evaluate data and develop/prepare reports for communicating results to key stake holders and partners.
- Test production batches promptly and pro-actively to ensure compliance and product quality while communicating results to team.
- Prepare Standards of Performance (SOPs), best practice documents, and other necessary documentations and ensure strict adherence to a cGMP environment is followed.
- Correct work orders for production based on standards necessary.
- Analyze research and development testing and updating and reporting of results as necessary.
- Develop safe protocols and procedures for lab work, ensure lab cleanliness meets Satellite standards, and develop new procedures for lab cleanliness.
- Perform stability and safety testing, product testing, and other necessary testing in both the lab and in the field.
- Update changes to BOM and other procedures as necessary.
- Calculate laboratory scale formulas and convert to large scale manufacturing formulas
- Record all procedures and formulas, and develops quality testing specifications keeping current with developments in specialized areas.
- Ensure routine laboratory functions, equipment, and apparatuses are maintained to specifications.
Supervisory Responsibilities:This position supervises all employees, temps, and contractors working within the Laboratory department.
Education and Experience Requirements:- A bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, or equivalent, preferred.
- Minimum of 7+ years of supervisory experience leading a high-volume laboratory and R&D teams.
- Experience in formulation chemistry preferred.
- Hands on experience in SDS software required.
- Experience in chemical waste and/or water treatment plants preferred.
- Understanding of lean manufacturing and 5S desirable

Physical/Mental Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Position requires a high degree of concentration to manage frequent interruptions while meeting strict deadlines. This position requires the ability to perform duties using both typical office equipment such as computers, cell phones, and printers as well as the ability to communicate and perform tasks in an office and lab environment. The ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend, sit or stand is necessary. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
