This is a hybrid position. Candidate must live within 1 hour of Blount Memorial Hospital.
- CODING MANAGER JOB SUMMARY
- A Coding Manager leads a multi-physician and multi-disciplinary physician coders/charge entry staff consisting of certified and non-certified coders reporting to Assistant Director of HIM. Ensures coding meets specifications of Federal regulations, American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), and World Health Organization. Responsible for auditing and reporting quality outcomes and any questions regarding accuracy/validation/reconciliation of charges from any/all medical providers. Daily functions include communication with other departments within the organization. Working with physician offices and coding auditors with questions and clarifications. Encourage development and excellence of the coding staff and maintain a positive and cohesive work environment. Must think outside the box to streamline processes to make this area as efficient, productive, and stress free as possible while maintaining expectations of the physician group. This position also oversees coding/charge entry of sole proprietors.
- CODING MANAGER JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Education and/or experience: Requires coding certification from American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Must have three (3) years of experience or more in a physician coder/charge entry position and three (3) years of inpatient coding experience and DRG knowledge is preferred. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Knowledge: Physician medical billing, CPT coding, ICD-CM coding, CMS 1500 Billing forms. Experience with NextGen and Paragon preferred. Requires knowledge of Physician coding/charge entry processes and workflows and understand how they all interact. Knowledge of Joint Commission and HIPAA Privacy standards. Requires knowledge of medical terminology.
- Skills: Requires strong analytical skills to organize and assess the department work flows and resolutions of issues as well as time management, leadership, and organization skills. Effective staff development, written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Critical thinking, judgment and decision-making skills are also essential. Excellent computer skills. Organizational skills required. Must have the ability to think outside the box for opportunities to improve workflow resulting in coder satisfaction, physician satisfaction and charge entry goals to be met.
- Abilities: Must be able to effectively monitor, evaluate and administer the resources of the department to ensure smooth operations of the HIM Department. Ability to identify and classify confidential information. Detail oriented. Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines with minimal supervision. Must be able to work well in a group setting as part of a production team. Requires ability to assimilate information, identify problems and make recommendations for corrective actions. Must possess the ability to prioritize needs and resources, multi-task and meet deadlines.
