Job Duties
Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents (CCCA) is a 48-bed facility. It is Virginia's only public acute care psychiatric hospital serving individuals 17 years of age and below with autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disabilities. We are located in the heart of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, conveniently at the crossroads of I-64 and I-81.
We seek a dedicated and compassionate Family Nurse Practitioner to join our team to provide accessible, comprehensive, and patient-centered pediatric primary care services to children and adolescents at the Commonwealth Center for Children and Adolescents (CCCA), including health promotion, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic illnesses.
Candidate must possess below knowledge, skills, and abilities:
• Proficiency in conducting comprehensive health assessments, diagnosing illnesses, and developing treatment plans for pediatric patient population.
• Competence in performing wound care.
• Ability to interpret diagnostic tests accurately and make appropriate clinical judgments.
• Knowledge of primary care principles and practices for children, and adolescents.
• Competence in providing preventive care, health maintenance, and patient education on wellness and disease prevention.
• Ability to establish therapeutic relationships with patients and families, fostering trust and effective communication.
• Knowledge of evidence-based practices for preventing common diseases and promoting healthy lifestyles.
• Proficiency in managing chronic conditions such as diabetes, seizures, neurodiversity, hypertension, asthma, and heart disease in pediatric population through comprehensive care plans and patient education.
• Knowledge of physical diagnosis, pathophysiology, and medical therapeutics and able to recognize the common manifestations of physical illness encountered in pediatric population, such as upper respiratory infections, diabetes, hypertension, urinary tract infections, sexually transmitted diseases, etc.
• Skill in coordinating care and collaborating with other healthcare providers to optimize patient outcomes.
• Ability to advocate for patients' needs within the healthcare system, ensuring access to quality care and resources.
• Competence in providing leadership within interprofessional healthcare teams, promoting collaborative practice and teamwork.
CCCA mission is to provide a high quality acute psychiatric evaluation, crisis stabilization, and intensive short-term treatment that empowers children and their families to make developmentally appropriate choices and that strengthens children's hope, resilience, and self-esteem.
Minimum Qualifications
• Licensure by State Boards of Nursing and Medicine (void without valid RN license).
• Completion of approved nurse practitioner program.
