Description:GENERAL SUMMARYThe Senior Product Engineer is responsible for organizing and leading standards and processes related to the development of new products, as well as improvement of existing products through the efforts of a cross-functional product development team. This position focuses on utilizing senior level technical experience to ensure that designs will meet specifications and customer expectations for safety, reliability, productivity, and cost effectiveness.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Strategic and FunctionalPromote an environment of continuous improvement of engineering processes and documentation to increase throughput, design efficiencies, and product quality.Develop and ensure standardization and best practices for design and documentation using configure to order or other methods.Assist with development of options and variants for Garlock product lines in conjunction with engineering team members including bill of material structure, routings, drawings, item master information and cost information.Research, test and recommend new and emerging technologies and processes in the systems and components.Investigate, apply, and ensure compliance with applicable domestic and international design standards for machine design related to OSHA and applicable industry standards.Direct and review grouping or catalogs of select mechanical components, systems and structures utilized on Garlock equipment including: frames and other welded steel structures, engines, generators, cooling systems, air filtration, tanks, etc.Use technical experience and sound engineering judgment to complete RFIs, feasibility studies, design reviews, deviation approvals, and product nonconformance investigations.Use a working knowledge of solid modeling design and documentation practices, create concept layouts, review and check designs and documentation.Direct the design and layout of equipment by use of the design review process and informal consultation to guide the technical decisions of mechanical personnel.Ensure products and systems are designed per specification while meeting company quality standards and customer expectations.All other tasks as assigned.POSITION IMPACT:The Senior Product Engineer is the technical interface between the Garlock engineering department and product development. They also represent engineering in cross functional work groups.Requirements:KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREDEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME), or similar degree from four-year college or university; and at least seven years related experience.LANGUAGE SKILLSAbility to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or suppliers.MATHEMATICAL SKILLSPossess the ability to apply appropriate mathematical concepts with respect to standard engineering functions and practices. This includes the ability to identify the nature and magnitude of loads and stresses a product will endure under foreseeable application scenarios and execute mathematical operations to analyze and validate a products' ability to perform as intended. Possess a familiarity with accepted software programs intended for the mathematical evaluation of structures and power requirements. Possess the ability to perform standard arithmetic functions with respect to product cost estimation and validation.REASONING ABILITYAbility to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
