Role Summary:
The Instrument Technician is responsible to ensure Flowserve products and equipment are inspected, manufactured, assembled, calibrated, and tested according to Flowserve procedures and certifying agency requirements. This position will require the retention of certification records. The Instrument Technician will also work with engineers and other technicians on basic design.
Responsibilities:
- Verify, adjust, and maintain all measuring devices, gages, and test equipment.
- Collect and maintain calibration records electronically and in paper form (where applicable).
- Run reports and track costs associated with gage calibration, repair, and replacement.
- Oversee and assist in all outsourced calibration, ensuring traceability per National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST) standards, including preparing purchase orders for gage calibration.
- Repair and/or replace all damaged gages, both in-house (where capability exists) and outsourced as necessary.
- Evaluate new and improved methods of inspection to reduce inspection time and increase accuracy.
- Inspect components to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Perform audits and inspections of suppliers, manufacturing processes, and final products.
- Write, review, and implement quality procedures.
- Train shop personnel in the proper use and care of measuring and test equipment.
- Assist in the justification process for new or improved gauging and test equipment needs.
- Repurpose and/or inventory all unused gages for dispersal to other sites as equipment needs dictate.
- Provide consulting support and/or assist in gauging and calibration audits.
- Assist in other QA areas if required.
- Identify and implement testing procedures for certified equipment.
- Update certification records as products and standards change.
- Operate PMI and Spectrometer Analyzer for metal analysis and verification.
- Implement programs for data collection to be analyzed for continuous quality improvement.
- Meet with vendors to establish Flowserve Quality requirements.
- Follow all safety procedures and policies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of associated national, international, and industrial standards.
- Ability to use measuring and inspection equipment.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and basic computer skills.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Good organizational skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work with minimal or no supervision.
- Dexterity to use hand tools, ability to see and read fine print and markings, and ability to lift 50 pounds.
Preferred Experience / Skills:
- Experience in quality control or quality assurance inspection.
- Experience in the electronic manufacturing industry.
- Ability to inspect electronic PCBA’s including soldering, potting and conformal coat requirements.
- Ability to operate a Multimeter.
- Experience/knowledge of Hazardous Location requirements for Explosion Proof, Intrinsically Safe and Non-Incentive designs.
- Understand NDE (radiography, magnetic particle, liquid penetrant, ultrasonic examination).
- ASTM standards as applicable to material requirements and QA codes.
- Experience with diagnostic testing.
- HS Diploma / GED and 3-5 years relevant experience
