POSITION INFORMATION
Under direct supervision of the Shop Manager, the Trailer Mechanic is responsible for inspection, repair and preventative maintenance of the various types of Warren owned trailers by using Warren and industry standard methods and criteria to ensure the trailer is safe to be on the road. Functions of this position include: inspecting, diagnosing, replacing and repairing brake systems ABS, electrical components, multi-axle alignments, hydraulic systems, welding/fabrication of steel and aluminum and related equipment.
BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform inspections on incoming (safety lane) and outgoing company owned trailers using company, DOT, C-TPAT and OSHA guidelines to ensure the trailer is operating safely and efficiently
Move tractor and trailer in and out of the shop for maintenance repairs
Inspect electrical wiring, following wiring diagrams and color codes, examines welded and painted surfaces for flaws, reporting any damages to the Manager
Confirm assembled unit inspection to determine that undercarriage, braking systems, wheels, tires, and latching support meet specifications and record items examined and defects found
Perform repairs following Warren procedures within standard job times to ensure the equipment is available when needed and to get the driver back on the road as soon as possible
Performs basic trailer maintenance including proper condition and tire air pressure, brakes, lights, and safety equipment and submits reports indicating condition of equipment
Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times, ensure established safety procedures are implemented and followed
Must meet productivity standards
Document all parts used on truck and trailers, returning completed paperwork to the Manager to be added to the work order through an electronic process
Required to work occasional overtime and other shifts vacancies as needed
Occasional grounds maintenance including snow removal and general cleaning duties
Occasional truck inspection and minor repair
Performs other duties, tasks, or responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Two year AAS Degree in medium/heavy truck diesel program and/or a minimum three years of equivalent experience in related field e.g., automotive, medium/heavy equipment, tire repair, etc., and experience in cutting and welding.
Working knowledge of DOT regulations and out of service parameters for tractors, trailers, and accessorial equipment.
Working knowledge of trailer maintenance and diagnostic software.
A valid driver's license, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred
Must be able to operate all related shop equipment
Strong communications skills (written, verbal, listening).
Basic computer skills
Ability to read installation manuals and understand manufacturer training.
Working knowledge of proper procedures for hauling and disposal of hazardous waste materials.
WORKING CONDITIONS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee works outside and is exposed to all weather elements, including: extreme heat, wind, rain, snow, and freezing temperatures. The employee is frequently required to stand or walk for long periods. The employee is frequently required to bend, stoop, climb, push/pull up to 50 lbs., and twist. The employee is frequently required to move parts or supplies and can lift up to 100 lbs. The employee must frequently use fingers, handle or touch objects, tools, or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
