Accountable for staff supervision and patient care management for a select program and/or a defined workgroup. Identifies and accomplishes program goals and outcomes. Responsibilities:
Supervises and role models the nursing process to assist staff in providing patient care appropriate to the needs of patient populations with unpredictable needs. Demonstrates skillful responses to patient, family, and colleague's needs based on the specific need and the particular context of the situation. Monitors variances to expected outcomes and identifies any trends, making suggestion of changes needed to optimize patient outcomes for patient populations and ensuring changes are carried out. Assures staff involves patient, significant others, and health care providers in the evaluation process. Provides staff with resources needed to assist the patient and significant others in identifying and securing appropriate services and educational opportunities available to address health-related needs.
Provides leadership for the department in meeting organizational goals and objectives. Assists in the development of program/clinical/financial goals and objectives. Accountable for program/clinical/ financial outcomes for areas of responsibility. Recommends options to enhance program/clinical outcomes. Monitors and actively addresses compliance with departmental policies and procedures including dress code and attendance. Ensures that departmental orientation, continuing education and clinical development occurs as required for all employees. Initiates, formulates and administers coaching/counseling/corrective action for employees in collaboration with Director.
Takes the lead in implementing performance improvement activities. Accountable for operationalizing the QI/PI program for defined programs. Facilitates staff PI/QI education and participation by leading through influence and the scheduling process. Regularly reviews and communicates patient experience results to staff and co-creates plan of improvement with them. Performs Cipher rounding as required. Recommends options and implements plan to enhance patient experience to Director for additional insights or enhancements. Receives, reviews, performs follow up and documents on all incidents. Identifies trends and engages staff and content experts to follow up on departmental incidents.
Collaborates with department director in the selection and management of resources for a defined workgroup/program. Performs the selection and supervision of personnel reflective of the community served. Completes iCompass conversations with team members and completes all required Halogen tasks including yearly evaluations. Holds ultimate accountability for ensuring the departmental schedule is balanced and PAL is granted in accordance with meeting patient care needs of the department. Delves into and documents financial variances to include productivity and reviews these with one up leader at least monthly. Monitors and maintains departmental cost-containment activities. Promotes and supports employee engagement through rounding and Shared Governance activities. Accountable and responsible for recruitment and retention metrics and initiatives to support both.
Accountable to attend leadership meetings and communicate relevant items to staff on an ongoing basis. Ensures that there is support of and alignment with systemwide and divisional initiatives in all communication to staff and takes ownership of managing any crucial conversations for their team. Creates a unified message with the enterprise message as part of the leadership team even when the decision differs from personal feelings.
Actively utilizes Lean thinking and problem-solving to proactively address issues within department(s). Maintains an updated visual management board with KPIs. Regularly performs gemba rounds to verify and validate unit performance and demonstrates layered leader standard work along with leader standard work. Review key performance data and trends to create performance improvement plans on items that are below target. Ensures all areas of department(s) meet regulatory compliance standards and proactively performs accreditation readiness rounds.

Accountable for actively monitoring technical and behavioral performance of staff and proactively addressing identified issues. Celebrates and recognizes team members on an ongoing basis. Makes sure staff feel heard, valued, and have a voice in department-based decisions. Regularly has growth and development conversations with team members during iCompass conversations. Always demonstrates and role models iCARE behaviors and acts in alignment to our culture. Maintains visibility on all shifts throughout the month by flexing schedule.

Maintains clinical competency in order to provide support to the team, patient care and department by serving as charge nurse or staffing as needed. Flexes schedule accordingly. Supports and upholds decisions of the administrative coordinators when floating staff or making other adjustments to support overall patient care needs or adjust staffing according to census.
Attends all nursing leadership meetings. Helps lead systemwide initiatives as requested. Stays up-to-date with current trends in nursing. Shows awareness of own personal biases and actively works to address. Demonstrates self-care and ability to disconnect when away on PAL.

Bachelor of Nursing (BSN)
EXPERIENCE: 3, Healthcare-Registered Nurse, Required
3 or more years of nursing experience with leadership activities
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING: REQUIRED
RN Registered Nurse licensed in North Carolina or a Compact state.
BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
Certification in a clinical specialty as defined by National Certification requirements is required within two (2) years of hire into Nurse Manager role.
