JOB TITLE: Medical Billing Manager
SUMMARY: The Medical Billing Manager is responsible for overseeing the medical billing team’s operations to ensure accurate and timely billing processes. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage a team effectively.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage and supervise the medical billing team, including hiring, training, and performance management.
- Ensure that all billing processes are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Monitor team performance and implement strategies to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Review and analyze billing data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with billing regulations.
- Collaborate with other departments to resolve billing issues and improve overall billing processes.
- Conduct regular meetings with the team to provide feedback and address any concerns.
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices in medical billing.
- Coordinates the insurance billing function of the business office, and sees to the proper application of patient, insurance, and other payments.
- Prepares weekly and monthly reports on billings, accounts pending diagnoses, and late charges.
- The timely submission of claims to insurance companies either electronically or paper.
- Responsible for assisting staff with resolution of specific account issues, claims submission issues, and specific payer problems.
- Create efficiencies by improving processes and identifying best practices in customer service while actively seeking methods to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and efficiency.
- Handles escalated issues with patients, attorneys, clinical locations, carriers, agents and/or insurance agencies.
- Engage, coach and train new team members to insure the achievement of company, success of agent and department goals.
- Responsible for providing necessary additional training for existing employees and assessing training needs.
- Ensures staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.
- Trouble shoots and researches process and/or payer issues for leadership as needed.
- Manages daily operating activities of assigned collection units and makes necessary adjustments in work assignments.
- Assist staff with any unresolved issues.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
- Trains, evaluates, and initiates disciplinary action for supervised employees.
- Ensures employees report to work on time and completes timesheets.
QUALIFICATIONS:- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in medical billing, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of medical billing procedures and regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to effectively manage a team and prioritize tasks.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and billing software.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to deal professionally, courteously, and efficiently with the public and to remain calm under stress.
- Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds.
