GENERAL DESCRIPTION
MEGI Engineering Inc. is a full-service engineering design and consulting firm located in Portland, OR serving the pulp and paper, industrial, power and utility, and chemical markets. The successful candidate must be competent in performing engineering for all phases of projects, have experience designing steel, wood and concrete structures, be proficient in applying US Building Codes and Reference Standards, and be able to independently work through basic engineering tasks or completion of entire small projects.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Working with the Lead Structural Engineer, complete design tasks related to steel and concrete structures, building and equipment foundations, wind and seismic lateral force resisting systems, and develop project-specific details
Coordinate with other disciplines, work with designers to develop drawing packages, develop structural calculations, attend regular project coordination meetings, understand and apply internal and client standard details
Be responsible for completing tasks in order to meet project timelines and work quality expectations
Interface directly with clients and vendors
Help to oversee the development of structural drawing packages and 3D models created in AutoCAD and Revit platforms
Possess the ability and initiative to independently oversee and execute projects of small size and moderate complexity
Perform duties for multiple ongoing projects
Review vendor drawings, shop drawings and construction submittals
Participate in internal quality-control structural reviews of various projects within the office
Participate in gathering information from project sites, including field measurements, photographs, and document research
Aid in the development of construction scope-of-work documentation
Aid in mentoring junior engineers and engineering interns
QUALIFICATIONS / QUALITIES
10 years of professional experience in structural engineering
At least 4 years of experience specific to industrial projects is preferred
BS in Structural or Civil Engineering
Professional Engineering (PE) License, or the ability to pass the PE exam within two years
Experience working on projects with other disciplines including piping, electrical and process
Working knowledge and application of current US building codes and reference standards, as well as conventional structural building products
Substantial structural engineering technical knowledge and application, including: Concrete, steel, and masonry structures. Foundations and experience interpreting geotechnical requirements. Seismic analysis and detailing including shear walls, and braced and rigid frames. Evaluation of existing structures. Support and anchorage of equipment.
Familiarity with OSHA standards, including lifting beams
Strong proficiency using software, including but not limited to: Structural analysis and design software such as RISA-3D, STAADpro and Enercalc. All MS Office applications, including Teams. Ability to develop custom engineering tools using MS Excel and/or Mathcad. Bluebeam Revu. 3D environments using the Navisworks platform and point scans.
Strong communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
Must be willing to take on increasing roles of responsibilities as skills develop to progress into more senior positions
Must work well in groups and be comfortable in a fast-paced and diverse work environment
Able to travel as required, typically up to 25%
Must pass drug test, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving policy
Valid US Driver's License
May be required to pass a background check prior to employment
Typical duties will be performed in an office environment with occasional travel to operating facilities or construction sites. These require the ability to sit for extended periods of time, or to stand, walk, reach, climb and balance It also requires sufficient hearing, vision acuity, depth perception and the ability to remain focused on tasks. Lifting 25 pounds objects may be required.
Salary and benefits negotiable based on level of experience and the agreed upon responsibilities.
