Risk Advisor (Workers’ Compensation) | 100% remote opportunity
General Summary:
A Workers’ Compensation Risk Advisor’s primary responsibility is to support internal customers as an integral part of risk evaluation, pricing, writing, and retaining profitable business, and support external customers with expert risk advisory services to enhance EMPLOYERS’ value proposition in the marketplace. Must have OSHA certifications and/or be a certified Occupational Safety Specialist.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Effectively manages assigned internal and external requests from various sources, including departmental email box and telephonic inquiries. Uses judgement to delegate requests to other in the department. Coordinates remote consultative, on-site, and other workers' compensation Risk Advisory services as needed.
- Manages various regulatory processes according to state requirements.
- Confirm OSHA guidelines and be the Certified Occupational Safety Specialist
- Directs workers' compensation risk advisory support services towards reducing claims costs and improving safety culture.
- Conducts risk evaluations and consultations to policyholders as necessary.
- Analyzes loss data and assists the policyholder in identifying the root cause of employee injuries.
- Supports internal partners with education, training, and risk advisory services as necessary.
- Identifies, develops and presents training and educational resources specific to policyholder needs.
- Communicates and develops relationships with our partner agencies to help meet the needs of policyholders.
- Establishes relationships and communicates with internal customers to meet the needs of the organization.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Job Requirements:
- OSHA certified or have OSHA training
- Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS) certifications/training
- Minimum of three years’ experience in the insurance industry.
- Associate degree (2 additional years of experience may be substituted for this requirement).
- Basic level knowledge of the application of federal, state, and local occupational safety and health laws and regulations.
- Basic knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of workers’ compensation insurance.
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
- Analytical problem-solving skills, such as the ability to use a systematic approach in solving problems by identifying the problem, developing a course of action, implementing action to affect a solution, and measuring the effectiveness of the action taken.
- Knowledge of technical reference materials, including occupational safety and health laws and regulations, HR policies and procedures and state codes and regulations.
- Must be able to evaluate risk and provide appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
- Must have intermediate level working knowledge of basic computer programs/systems, including word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software programs. Must have the ability to apply applications to job function and to access the Internet for reference materials.
PREFERRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED:
- Degree in a risk management or occupational safety related field.
- Recognized professional designation, including ASP, CSP, ARM or OSHT is preferred.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
- This job operates in a professional office environment; this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines
- This is largely a sedentary role; however, some mobility is required
- May work early, late, or occasional weekend hours to accommodate business needs
- Occasional lifting of a maximum of 30lbs.
- Minimal travel to other office locations/meeting locations occasionally necessary
