Columbia Montessori School is seeking a Lead Teacher for our Primary (3-6) classroom who is committed to a career in Early Childhood Education. The ideal candidate would be Montessori certified from an MACTE accredited program. Employer sponsored certification may be available, if teacher is not already certified. Individual must have a desire and willingness to grow and continue their own education as a teaching professional, both through formal and independent learning.
This is a full-time position with an average of 40 hours per week. Expected availability ranges from 7:00am-6:00pm. Shifts are Monday-Friday. Occasional availability on evenings or weekends may be required for staff meetings, training, or classroom preparation.

Responsibilities:
Prepare classroom environment and create developmentally appropriate lesson plans in line with Montessori philosophy
Provide a safe, nurturing, and educationally stimulating environment to facilitate learning, including use of outdoor environment
Keep children safe at all times - including active supervision, identifying and responding to illness and injuries, and routine cleaning and maintenance of equipment
Observe and interpret developmental needs of children
Build positive relationships with children and families
Observe and interact with each child regularly, including at least observation of their work time and free time activities (e.g. outside time, rest periods, etc.).
Give individual and small group presentations of Montessori materials consistent with observed sensitive periods, learning needs, and interests.
Conduct line time and large group activities.
Maintain regular and professional communication with parents and guardians, other staff members, and Executive Director
Assign and supervise specific responsibilities of teaching staff in the classroom
Act as a model of peace and respect for children and staff
Attend regular meetings and staff development training as needed
Conduct regular assessments and hold parent teacher conferences
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
Associate's Degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field, Bachelor's Degree preferred
3 years experience in early childhood education
Montessori certification or willingness to obtain
Be willing to submit to various background checks
Be CPR, First Aid, and Blood Borne Pathogen certified or willing to obtain certification upon hire
Complete a physical and TB Risk Assessment and provide a physician's documentation of both
Possess or be willing to obtain Food Handler Certificate upon hire
Be willing to obtain at least twelve hours of child-related training annually
Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds, stand for long periods of time, and easily get up and down from the floor
