Position Summary:
Operate electrocardiographic machine and patient monitoring equipment to record electromotive variations and impulses of the heart. Perform non-invasive procedures, electrocardiograms, holter monitors, event recorders and ambulatory blood pressure machines for diagnosis of Coronary Artery Disease. Monitor designated patients throughout the institution and notifies appropriate personnel as required. Instruct patients on usage of monitoring equipment. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignments may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric age groups.
Detailed responsibilities:
TESTING - Perform EKG, holter monitors, ambulatory blood pressure machines and event monitors; instruct patients on usage of monitoring equipment
TESTING - Obtain test and patient information from patient requisition forms; submit test results to physician for interpretation
SUPPORT - Answer phone, receive event recorder transmissions and operate computer systems
SUPPORT - Deliver test results, perform quality assurance reports for monitor room and complete patient billing
MONITOR - Interpret, document and mount EKG rhythm strips; monitor designated patients throughout the institution and notify appropriate personnel of changes and life threatening rhythms
EQUIP & TRANSPORT - Maintain equipment, stock supplies and transport patients
PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
