Job Description
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking an experienced engineer to join the Construction Design Engineering Team at the Naval Reactors Facility (NRF) in Idaho. The selected candidate will oversee project planning and execution, development of design contracts (technical specifications, cost estimates, etc), technical oversight of design, field inspections to confirm drawings/specifications and codes are met, and commissioning of projects ranging from multi-year, multi-million-dollar investment projects to smaller scope, short duration projects.
Additional duties include:
Mentor other engineers, provides peer reviews, and advises management team as needed.
Develop and implements capital improvement projects, such as construction, remodeling, and renovation, including preliminary concept development, detailed engineering design, and bidding.
Design and plans mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil, architecture and other infrastructure systems.
Conduct preliminary surveys and prepares schematics and work drawings for the construction of current, new, or remodeled structures and facilities.
Participates in the planning and installation of new facility systems.
May work with multiple components including HVAC systems, air or liquid cooling systems, power distribution units, fire systems, life safety systems, etc.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 12 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 10 years relevant experience; or Currently or previously a Shift Supervisor or SIT in the Nuclear Operations Program; or CRE qualified; or SRE qualified with 9 years of experience.
Preferred Skills
• Knowledge of infrastructure design and construction.
• Experience with construction and/or design cost estimating.
• Knowledge of industry and building trade practice, techniques, codes, and standards.
• Experience with writing, placing, and managing design/construction contracts with architect/engineer firms and/or construction management firms.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Experience interacting with all levels of personnel, management, subcontractors, and government oversight.
• Leadership experience as a recognized expert in technical areas and on engineering teams.
• Mentoring and training experience.
• Experience with strategic planning and oversight of a project portfolio.

• Experience with dentification and management of project risks.
• Legacy expertise of the Naval Reactors Facility site or similarly operated Department of Energy sites.

Pay Range
$125,400.00 - $199,900.00 annually
