Position Overview:
The Mechanic/Line Maintainer serves a key function in the operation and on-going maintenance of the high-speed manufacturing equipment that produces both metal cans and ends at the Dubuque, Iowa manufacturing location.
Duties And Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to manufacturing floor supervision and management, the Mechanic/Line Maintainer responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Run and maintain automated press equipment, ensuring all aspects of the operation are funning effectively
- Run quality checks on product in line with customer requirements
- Remove any jams as they occur and report irregularities to the management team. Restore the equipment, check for quality and resume production as soon as possible after any shutdown
- Maintain production tally, load and production tickets on assigned lines as required
- Sort any defective product as required
- Relieve other plant employees as needed
- Utilize check sheets and graphs to track causes for production problems, statistical process control requirements and spoilage concerns
- Communicates all pertinent information between departments, peers and between shifts on changes to equipment, production schedules, production problems or any other related information.
- Works with employees on identifying, discussing solutions and implementing “fixes” on machinery and equipment problems
- Applies knowledge of various processes and production methods to improve plant production
- Oversees quality and recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimal performance within the equipment limits

In addition to the specific responsibilities listed above, the ideal candidate will possess the following:
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Education/GED or equivalent
- Five to seven year(s) experience in a manufacturing environment
- Proven competency in the use of micrometers, calipers and related equipment
- The employee must have the ability to travel early on for training at other manufacturing locations
Preferred Requirements:
- Vocation or technical certification or a journeyman’s card or license
- High-speed packaging industry experience
- Knowledge of Six Sigma, SPC, and Lean Manufacturing

- The ability to be able to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, electrical schematics and parts specifications
- Ability to work independently or with a team

Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and may be required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
- The associate may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds on occasion
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus
- The employee must be able to work up to twelve (12) hours shifts, both day and evening
- Employees will be required to have their own tools
Working Conditions:
- The majority of work will be in a plant environment but maybe required to move around to different parts of the manufacturing floor
- While performing the duties of this job, the associate will be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicular traffic in the plant
- The associate may be exposed to a wide range of temperatures
- The noise level is frequently loud
