Position Summary:
Provide clinical respiratory care under the supervision of a CRT or RRT. Assemble and operate various types of equipment used in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disease, disability, impairment or illness. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.
Detailed responsibilities:
* PATIENT CARE - Perform patient assessments in accordance with department policy
* PATIENT CARE - Assist the certified and registered respiratory care practitioner staff with routine treatment therapies
* PATIENT CARE - Assist the certified and registered respiratory care practitioner staff with other non-invasive aspects of respiratory care
* PATIENT CARE - Initiate or change oxygen related delivery devices according to department policy
* PATIENT CARE - Adjust/titrate oxygen according to department protocol standards
* PATIENT CARE - Administer chest physiotherapy
* PATIENT CARE - Administer aerosol and positive breathing therapies (other than Bi-level devices) with ordered medications
* PATIENT CARE - Assist the certified and registered respiratory care practitioner staff with continuous bland aerosol devices
* PATIENT CARE - Assist the certified and registered respiratory care practitioner staff with basic oxygen supplementation
* COMMUNICATION - Communicate purpose and procedure of clinical respiratory care to patient or patient representative, following HIPAA guidelines
* CUSTOMER SERVICE - Ensure customer and patient satisfaction using scripting procedure
* EQUIPMENT - Assist in equipment and environment maintenance; route malfunctioning equipment for repair
* EQUIPMENT - Transport equipment (to and from various units) and department gas cylinders
* DOCUMENT - Document procedure and outcomes of care to patient
* EDUCATION - Support education and research in conjunction with the Chief of Clinical Operations
* PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
* PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
* PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
* PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
* PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"

* Complete 1st Year at RT Program at VCC

Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo
Credentials:

* CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers w/in 30 days
* Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification w/in 1 year
* Respiratory Care Permit in NM w/in 120 days
Physical Conditions:
Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
