Role Summary:
The Tax Manager is responsible for overseeing the tax department's operations, ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of tax services provided to clients. This pivotal role involves managing tax planning and compliance, reviewing tax returns, enhancing departmental profitability, and maintaining high levels of client satisfaction. The Tax Manager will also ensure that all departmental processes adhere to the firm's standards and regulatory requirements.
This role reports directly to the Director of Operations / Integrator. The firm's tax professionals report to the Tax Manager.
The person filling this role must be passionate about providing legendary client service, is highly professional, a hard worker, and often exceeds expectations. He/she communicates very well and is a great leader. The ideal candidate is energetic, friendly, detail oriented, and has a knack for numbers and technology.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage the tax department, overseeing all operational aspects including tax planning, compliance, and preparation.
Manage and hold the department's staff accountable to high standards of quality and client service.
Support, assist, train, and mentor staff.
Maintain high levels of client satisfaction through excellent service delivery and timely communication by the tax department.
Ensure the department is operating smoothly and all staff are following GCPA core processes.
Review and approve tax returns and other tax-related documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with laws and regulations.
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and staff.
Promote a company culture that encourages top performance and high morale.
Collaborate with the Integrator and contribute to the execution of the firm's vision and goals.
Develop and implement strategies aimed at maximizing departmental profitability.
Stay updated with changes in tax law and regulations and communicate relevant updates to the team.
Collaborate with other departments to ensure integrated and comprehensive client service delivery.
Other Duties:
Facilitate weekly Tax Department meetings.
Participate in weekly Leadership Team meetings.
Conduct regular one-on-one conversations with department staff.
Participate in regular one-on-one conversations with Integrator.
Set annual department goals and quarterly rocks with the staff.
Hold staff accountable for individual performance results, meeting goals, completing rocks, and meeting weekly scorecard metrics, etc.
Review tax returns and tax planning engagements.
Ensure pace of project completion meets previously set commitments - during tax season and outside of tax season.
Engage in continuous learning through reading, podcasts, videos, coaching/consulting, conferences, etc. Topics of primary focus should include taxation, technology, leadership, efficiency, etc.
Requirements:
Proven experience as a Tax Manager or similar leadership role in a tax department.
Strong knowledge of tax accounting, tax compliance, and all types of tax returns.
Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
Excellent analytical and organizational abilities.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with all levels of staff and clients.
Strong understanding of business functions, financial management, and performance metrics.
Ability to be strategic and detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills.
Strong decision-making capabilities and accountability.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required; Master's degree is preferred.
CPE or EA is required.
Extensive experience in tax preparation, compliance, and review for a diverse client base.
