POSITION: High School Special Education Teacher

PROGRAM SUMMARY:
The Crispus Attucks YouthBuild Charter School's (CAYBCS) Mission is to provide a challenging and high quality academic and vocational education for students who have qualified for a high school diploma. The program includes an academic component designed to offer Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Art, Career, Special Education, and wellness program to meet the needs of individual students and enable the students to qualify for a high school diploma. The program's service site component centers on developing construction skills by reconstructing abandoned buildings. Finally, a placement programs provides each student with pathways to higher education; additional technical training; apprenticeship., full-time employment, or a career in the armed services.
PURPOSE:
The Special Education Teacher will develop an educational program within Crispus Attucks YouthBuild Charter School to provide a linkage between the students in the special education system and other teachers and staff programs.
DUTIES:
Manage the required Special Education paperwork required by Federal and State regulations.
Develop and maintain partnerships and contacts for special education students with BSE/BDE, School Districts, OVR, Children and Youth, Probation and Parole, MH/MR, the Crispus Attucks Association, and other such agencies/schools for relevant purposes.
Develop, review curriculum and curriculum guides as needed to ensure compliance with Special Education regulations.
Complete reports as assigned by CEO.
Prepare IEP's and monitor the timelines for IEP services through IEP Writer.
Schedule and hold IEP meetings as required.
Develop and monitor the implementation of IEP services to students with IEP's.
Observe and monitor Intervention Plans for those students in need of such services.
Manage due process procedures.
Organize and review relevant student files.
Research and recommend staff development trainings.
Participate in special projects.
Maintain Special Education data as required by PDE and provide/enter data into Penn Data and other State Systems.
Assist teachers in providing appropriate accommodations and modifications.
Initially adopt IEPS when students enter providing required information and documents to office PIMS Coordinator and other office personnel.
Provide learning support to students as needed within the classroom setting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of Special Education Regulations.
Experience teaching young adults.
Experience writing curriculum and lesson plans.
Experience in creative planning and development.
Strong commitments to helping young people succeed in an innovative education program, to reorient their lives, nurture their leadership skills, and enable them to a difference in their community.
Ability to relate sensitively to a multi-racial and multi-cultural group of young people.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
PDE Certification
Must pass required State Police, Child Abuse, NSOR, FBI Criminal Background check, and pre-employment exam, including physical, TB test and drug screen.
