Kovitz Shifrin Nesbit continues to grow! A well-established and leading real estate tax firm focusing on the appeal of commercial, industrial, and investment property is seeking a full-time Real Estate Tax Associate for our South Suburban, IL office. The ideal candidate will have 2+ years of experience researching and filing property tax appeals with the Cook/Collar County Assessor Offices, the Cook County Board of Review, and the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board. KSN supports attorneys who are eager to learn, have a strong work ethic, and practices law with an entrepreneurial spirit. Qualified candidates must be licensed in Illinois and have strong writing and analytical skills. Starting salary is $85,000. This is an in-office position. Business hours for this exempt position are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Duties/Responsibilities:
The candidate will assist with the administration of property tax appeals, including the timely preparation and filing of appropriate complaints and supporting evidence at three administrative levels as well as in the Circuit Courts.
Analyzes properties, reviews, and drafts briefs and all supporting evidence for income producing and owner-occupied properties including real estate development projects from demolition to completion for new construction, building rehabs, and Incentive based purchases.
Understands and interprets assessment records, assessment histories and other relevant documentation common in the practice.
Monitors and assists with all filings for tax objection cases filed in the Circuit Court of Cook County as well as court call management and document production.
Communicates with clients, both through written and verbal means, including drafting correspondence to summarize appeal results and recommendations, requests and follows up for appropriate data, and fields questions and concerns regarding pending appeals, new properties, and other various matters.
Communicates with county representatives concerning hearings, scheduling issues, pending settlements, refunds, and other related issues.
Maintains a docket and assists in all phases of obtaining tax incentives.
Supports Real Estate Department with various real estate tax proration issues and other miscellaneous projects.
Must possess a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills to be able to work well with employees at all levels within the organization and maintain all confidential information.
Required to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with others.
Must have ability to compose documents in the appropriate business style using correct grammar and spelling; ability to communicate clearly using proper grammar and diction over the telephone.
Must be detail oriented and have excellent organizational skills; ability to balance multiple projects, work independently and have strong time management skills, as well as prioritize workload. Must have ability to reason and apply common-sense understanding to situations encountered.
Ability to process routine daily functions while being able to resolve sensitive issues and complex assignments utilizing above average critical thinking skills are required.
Participate in all Continuing Legal Education trainings.
