Schwab Wealth and Asset Management Engineering (WAME) is a part of the Schwab Technology Services organization supporting Schwab's money management, research, and asset management platforms to help clients manage their wealth.
As a Director in WAME Research Technology, you will be responsible for driving the evolution of our Financial Research quantitative platform capabilities to enable model development activities conducted by the business. The Financial Research Technology team is responsible for enabling the stable production and dissemination of timely verified quant-oriented financial advice at scale. The platform evolution will enable rapid research idea prototyping as well as meet the stringent control requirements for production model operations.
You will join the team as a hands-on leader in a client driven technology organization delivering on our strategic and short-term initiatives. The businesses the team support include Schwab Center for Financial Research and Thematic equity research. The platforms span on-premises and public cloud. The ideal candidate is expected to have a deep domain experience in developing and supporting financial research analytics platforms at scale, experience supporting highly technical business teams, strong cloud architecture and application development experience with a history of advancing data engineering capabilities.
What you'll do:
- Collaborate with other engineers, architects, data scientists, quantitative researchers, analytics teams, and business product owners in an agile environment.
- Enable a co-development model across technology and business and establish solution designs to meet future and current needs.
- People management responsibility, develop a high performing delivery focused team and enable a consistent team culture aligned with Schwab values.
- Architect, build, and support the operation of Cloud and On-Premises enterprise data infrastructure and tools to support critical operational processes, analytical models, and machine learning applications.
- Design and build robust, reusable, and scalable data driven solutions and data pipeline frameworks to automate the ingestion, processing and delivery of both structured and unstructured batch and real-time streaming data.
- Assist in selection and integration of data related tools, frameworks, and applications required to expand platform capabilities.
- Communicate strategic technology plans to associated business partners ensuring collaboration across technology and the business.
- Lead or participate in developing proof of concepts.
- Analyze business problems and processes, help refine requirements and design solutions for them.
- Establish a mature operating model for Dev Ops, Production support and agile development.
What you have
Required:
- Deep financial services domain experience in developing and supporting financial research analytics platforms at scale.
- Experience building platforms supporting Quantitative Researchers with financial data.
- Experience in running experiments and proof-of-concepts while partnering with Quantitative Researchers
- Experience supporting highly technical business teams.
- Strong cloud architecture experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, math, engineering, or other technical field, or equivalent experience
- 8+ years of experience with Python or Java, strong hands-on experience in Python
- 5+ years managing teams with track record of growth and experience adapting to organization needs.
- Familiarity with quantitative model development eco systems (R, Matlab, Python)
- Three or more years of experience in building data lake, cloud data platform leveraging cloud (GCP/AWS) cloud native architecture, ETL/ELT, and data integration.
- Familiarity in developing distributed data processing and Streaming frameworks and architectures (Apache Spark, Apache Beam, Apache Flink)
- Familiarity with NoSQL database technologies (e.g. MongoDB, BigTable, DynamoDB)
- Expertise in build and deployment tools - (Visual Studio, PyCharm, Git/Bitbucket/Bamboo, Maven, Jenkins, Nexus)
- Four years of experience and expertise in database design techniques and philosophies (e.g. RDBMS, Document, Star Schema, Data Vault, Kimball Model)
- Experience with integration and service frameworks (e.g. API Gateways, Apache Camel, Swagger API, Zookeeper, Kafka, messaging tools, microservices)
- Expertise with Microservices and REST based API development
- Experience leveraging continuous integration/development tools (e.g. Jenkins, Docker, Containers, OpenShift, Kubernetes, and container automation) in a Ci/CD pipeline.

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
