Description:
The Nurse Coordinator is responsible for managing and overseeing nursing care in the PACU and OR. This role ensures the smooth flow of patients through surgical procedures and recovery. The coordinator will supervise nursing staff, provide direct patient care, and facilitate communication between different departments. The Nurse Coordinator serves as a resource person for staff and models a commitment to the organization's mission and values.
Key Responsibilities:
OR Coordination:
- Oversee and coordinate nursing care in the Operating Room, ensuring all surgical procedures are executed efficiently and safely.
- Communicate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare providers to confirm patient readiness for surgery.
- Ensure all necessary surgical supplies and equipment are available and functioning properly.
- Oversee Sterile Processing Department.
PACU Management:
- Manage patient care in the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, monitoring patients as they recover from anesthesia.
- Conduct patient assessments, administer medications, and provide interventions to ensure patient stability.
- Educate patients and their families about post-op care and discharge instructions.
Staff Supervision and Training:
- Supervise and mentor nursing staff.
- Assist in the orientation and training of new nursing staff.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and nursing standards.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Act as a liaison between the OR, PACU, and other hospital units.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care plans and coordinate services.
- Maintain open and effective communication with all members of the healthcare team.
Quality Improvement:
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care in the OR and PACU.
- Identify areas for improvement and implement changes to enhance patient care and department efficiency.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records and reports.
Administrative Duties:
- Work with Nurse Manager to schedule staff and manage daily workflows in both the OR and PACU.
- Ensure that all equipment and supplies are available and in good working condition.

Qualifications:
- ADN required, bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) preferred
- Current RN license in the state of Kansas.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in an OR or PACU setting. Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- BLS and ACLS certifications required;
