Caring. Connecting. Growing together. Optum is seeking a dynamic and motivated individual to fill the role of General Manager for Optum Specialty Distribution (OSD). The General Manager will be leading the team of an exciting new specialty distribution business serving patients with specialty and rare disease pharmaceutical manufacturers and healthcare providers by distributing and servicing therapies, at the frontier of healthcare.
The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing distribution operations of a multi-functional specialty distribution business with revenue expected in excess of $1 billion. This role will design and implement a critical business strategy for OSD that will drive annual growth and efficiency goals for the enterprise for the next 3-5 years. This role will also play a key role in financial and budgetary activities, and set goals to ensure financial targets, and quality and performance standards are met and exceeded. This role will collaborate regularly with both Optum senior leadership, and site and functional leaders at the distribution facility.

We are creating a business that is designed to specifically serve the unique needs of patient populations using Specialty Pharmacies and supports the opportunity for expansion into additional therapies, which require enhanced services and new capabilities over traditional specialty distributors.

Primary Responsibilities: - Oversees the operation of the entire Specialty Distribution business unit, including but not limited to, distribution operations, account management, quality, procurement, transportation, implementation, 3PL operations, and other functions
- Establishes the strategic vision and plan for OSD for current and future fiscal years, setting goals in line with the broader Optum vision to drive growth and integration within Optum and beyond, in future years
- Assumes responsibility for the full P&L of the business, including budgetary and financial activities; provides strategic input in long-range and annual business planning activities
- Presents budgets and monthly and quarterly reports related to business performance to Optum leadership to obtain the necessary approvals and provide business updates on an ongoing basis
- Continuously identifies new opportunities to grow the business, and areas to cut costs while maintaining performance and drive efficiency; coordinates with the appropriate functions to develop strategies to pursue these opportunities
- Maintains solid relationships with key customers and decision makers at strategic and key priority accounts, ensuring solid business development and service performance
- Regularly consults with distribution Site Director on the status of operations of the distribution facility, including tracking and reviewing KPIs, workforce productivity, budget, adherence to quality standards, and current processes and procedures in place to meet financial targets
- Meets regularly with department/shared services/functional heads to ensure the goals and targets of each department are on track, and provide guidance regarding any issues as appropriate
- Identifies new roles in the organization as the business evolves; collaborates with the appropriate functions (e.g., Human Capital) and advises on the hiring of new roles within the organization to ensure growth and performance goals are met and exceeded
- Ensures the necessary capacity and infrastructure are in place to support product volumes being distributed
- Ensures all OSD company policies and standard operating procedures are enforced

Required Qualifications: - 10+ years of experience in the pharmaceutical distribution space or in a similar healthcare supply chain role
- 10+ years of management experience
- Proven P&L responsibility for a business unit of a large, matrix, integrated company
- Proven leadership skills, with the ability to build, motivate and influence cohesive teams
- Proven excellent communication skills (oral and written), with the ability to communicate at all levels of the organization, including Optum Executive leadership
Preferred Qualifications: - Proficient in MS Office
- Proven track record of setting and achieving high performance goals for new businesses, building excellent organizational culture and morale, and promoting teamwork, engagement, and productivity
- Demonstrated ability to achieve goals in an ambiguous and matrixed work environment where there are many competing priorities and stakeholder dynamics
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and lead by influencing others through exceptional communication and interpersonal skills

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
