The Vice President (VP) Internal Audit plays an integral role in enterprise risk management strategy and leads efforts to ensure safety and soundness of business practices and internal controls. The Vice President (VP) Internal Audit is accountable for leadership, development, and completion of the organization’s risk-based audit plans and strategies and contributes to Hoosier Hills Credit Union’s mission and culture by leading the Internal Audit department and fostering collaboration and communication with internal and external stakeholders including team members, department leaders, senior management, the HHCU Supervisory Committee and Board of Directors as well as external vendors, other qualified auditors, and regulatory agencies and personnel.
The Vice President (VP) Internal Audit is responsible for:
Internal Audit Department Leadership and Operations
- Coach and develop Internal Audit staff to their highest potential by identifying their areas for improvement and appropriately coaching, training, or correcting the employees’ performance
- Oversee all audit engagements, from planning to final reporting
- Establish and report on measurable goals and objectives for the Internal Audit department; and create department work schedules, plans, and financial budgets
- Create policies and procedures related to Internal Audit function and develop and implement the annual risk-based audit plan to determine the priorities and resources of the internal audit activity
- Ensure that audit fieldwork, testing, and evidence is sufficient to support conclusions
- Ensure adequate audit coverage, avoid duplication of efforts, and maximize staff efficiency
- Ensure that all Internal Audit work and deliverables adhere to the professional standards defined by the Institute of Internal Auditors
- Ensure Internal Audit resources are appropriate, sufficient, and effectively deployed to achieve the approved internal audit plan
- Develop and execute training and professional development plans for the Internal Audit department
- Create and maintain a Quality Assurance and Improvement Program
Stakeholder Engagement, Support and Liaison for the Supervisory Committee
- Maintain effective verbal and written communication with employees, officials, and other stakeholders as needed
- Manage relationships with external auditors, staff auditees, regulators, and other parties as needed
- Communicate the impact of any internal audit resource limitations to senior management and the Board of Directors and perform additional audit work as directed by the executive team Manage the Supervisory Committee’s selection process of the independent external auditors
- Serve as the Supervisory Committee’s primary liaison between regulatory examiners, external auditors, and corporate staff
- Coordinate and execute regular Supervisory Committee meetings
- Perform ad hoc investigations, consultations, reviews, and any other special assignments requested by the Supervisory Committee and/or Board of Directors

Ideal Candidates Have:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or other business-related major
- 5-8 years’ experience in enterprise risk management, specifically within the audit discipline
- Proven leadership experience, financial institution experience highly preferred
- Certifications of CPA, CIA, or CCUIA desired
- Strong mathematical, analytical, investigative, and communications skills
- Thorough knowledge of and experience in internal control issues and risk identification
- Project management skills, the ability to maintain attention to detail, prioritize work, stay organized and handle multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment
- An understanding of, and adherence to, the Auditors Code of Ethics and the Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing as developed by the Institute of Internal Auditors
- Experience with handling sensitive information and maintaining a high level of confidentiality in all matters, at all times
- A high level of professionalism, projecting a positive image as an ambassador for the Credit Union
- Proven ability to think strategically and implement plans that solve problems, mitigate risk, and proactively position the Audit function and Credit Union for success
