Job Summary:
We are seeking a detailed-oriented and organized professional to support the team in handling tax-related disputes and controversies on behalf of individuals and organizations. Their primary role is to navigate complex tax laws, regulations, and procedures to resolve issues between taxpayers and tax authorities.
As a Tax Controversy Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing essential support to our Tax Controversy and ERC team.
Location: Long Beach CA and Las Vegas Offices
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Qualifications and Skills:
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation or Enrolled Agent (EA) designation required
2+ years recent public accounting experience required
Prior Tax Controversy experience required
Income tax compliance experience
Experience with IRS, FTB, State and Local Tax and other tax authorities in Audits, Notices, Research, etc.
Strong analytical skills to conduct tax-related research
Knowledge of federal and state tax issues
Knowledge of computer systems, programs, and data retrieval
Ability to work under pressure in a fast pace environment
Ability to meet timely deadlines
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to adapt to new software applications.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in all aspects of IRS projects including but not limited to audits, appeals, collection, penalty abatement, and tax resolution.
Review and analyze client data, respond to information requests, and prepare required supporting documents including related filings.
Track statute of limitations, provide technical advice on practice and procedure matters.
Communicate with exam team and clients
Regularly communicate with both the IRS and other Tax Authorities to accurately assess client's individual and business tax issues
Prepare written correspondence to clients and Tax Authorities.
Manage case files in a productive, efficient, and organized manner
Ability to investigate and diagnose client's individual and/or business tax issues
Mentor and train team members.
Perform other duties as needed and assigned
