Vaxxinova US is seeking an individual to join our team as an Animal Research Technician working in our Willmar, Minnesota, location.
About the Animal Caretaker Position:
The Animal Caretaker is responsible for the daily care of the animals used in research and development according to the established study protocols. In addition, the position ensures compliance with USDA and any regulatory agencies in regards to animal care. This position is part time with flexible hours, including some weekend rotation hours.
Summary of Responsibilities:
- Care for research animals including but not limited to; daily observation, record keeping, feeding, and watering.
- Responsible for the daily cleaning and sanitation of the animal facilities, animal caging, and equipment.
- Operate and/or maintain power washers and other sanitization and/or sterilization equipment.
- Assist research staff with animal procedures including; animal restraint, animal handling, observation, vaccination, sample collection, and perform any special feeding requirements or treatments.
- Receive, sort and care for animals
- Maintain a healthy and safe animal environment
- Animal feeding and nutrition management
- Maintain and monitor overall animal health, care and treatment
Qualifications and Capabilities:
- Must be 16 years of age or older.
- Must be able to assume responsibility, work independently, without close supervision, and cooperatively with animal care technicians.
- Must be able to follow strict biosecurity policies and procedures.
- Must be able to follow written instructions, standard operating procedures and communicate effectively with study personnel.
- Ability to multi-task.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time; bending, twisting, and preforming fine motor manipulations required.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Familiar with regulatory agencies including the USDA/CVB, C-CVB, VICH, OSHA, Federal, State, and Local Agencies.
Experience/Educational Requirements:
- High school Diploma/GED required.
- 2-3 years of animal handling experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
