Summary:
This position provides direct patient care. The physician functions as a key and integral part of the clinical team. All of these functions require the maintenance of effective inter-disciplinary relationships based on mutual respect and a shared collective purpose to deliver high-quality patient-centered care. In addition, a mutual commitment must be made to coordination, collaboration, and cooperation efforts for the benefit of the Mattapan Community.
The scope of responsibilities associated with this position will be both internal (intra- organizational) and external (community). The Physician will engage in strategic activities to maximize the Center's leadership role in developing and implementing a viable community oriented public health forum.
Responsibilities
80% Direct Services:
Provide direct medical services to patients in Adult, Pediatric, and Adolescent Medicine for patients of MCHC in the ambulatory setting. Serve as a consultant for other MCHC providers. Advise the Medical Director and/or Chief Medical Officer in the development of programs and improvement of care and health center services.
Specific expectations for the provision of pediatric clinical care:
- Perform and document medical histories and exams, including developmental screening and routine preventive care measures;
- Maintain current, accurate and appropriately detailed medical records for each patient;
- Prescribe and/or dispense medications to patients, including Schedule II-V substances and Medication Assisted Treatment for substance use disorders, as needed;
- Order diagnostic tests, interpret results, and determine plans in partnership with patients and/or their caregivers;
- Refer to specialists and other interdisciplinary team members as needed;
- Coordinate care among and between internal/external team members;
- Maintain competence in all diagnostic and/or surgical procedures qualified to perform per scope of practice;
- Participate in clinical QI/QA initiatives relating to the care of patients at MCHC;
- Perform ongoing, self-directed continuing medical education with a focus on health promotion and preventive care services.
20% Clinical Administration:
Direct the overall clinical management of patients seen in Adult, Pediatric, and Adolescent clinics. Guide and improve clinical services involving other staff members, including but not limited to: designing written clinical protocols and developing and implementing preventative health best practices.
Participates in the overall leadership of the clinical services with other staff providers in various activities including but not limited to: written clinical protocols, quality improvement, managed care, and preventive health guidelines. Engage with QI committee and participate in initiatives.
- Attend departmental and provider meetings, including committee or Quality Improvement meetings related to the care of patients at MCHC;
- Participate in the MCHC peer review process;
- Assist in the development of internal practice guidelines, clinical protocols, and/or educational programs.
- Participate in other initiatives as directed by the Medical Director or Chief Medical Officer.
Requirements:
Requires a doctorate in medicine, Board Certified or Eligible in primary Care Specialty, active Massachusetts license, DEA license, and current Basic Life Support certification. Ability and desire to work with racially/culturally diverse, low/moderate income urban population. Comfort working with medical interpreters, including telephonic interpretation services.
Fluency in Haitian Creole or Spanish preferred.
