Shifts 7a-730p Description: Unit # beds: Eight beds, all private rooms.Ratios: 1:4Required , Chemotherapy administration certification preferred but not requiredCommon diagnosis / Types of patients: Frequently see patients with neutropenic fever and anemia secondary to chemotherapy, post surgical patients who have had a tumor removed (breast, colon), patients with newly diagnosed cancers awaiting biopsy, patients with other complications secondary to chemotherapy or cancer diagnosis (dehydration, malnutrition, nausea/vomiting, etc), pain management, end of life care, occasional overflow MedSurg patients.Experience or 'Must have' skills: Must have good teamwork capabilities, with such a small unit and no charge nurse, teamwork is a MUST. Must be able to hold your own and manage your patients since there is not a charge nurse. Must have good communication with providers and the care team. Experience administering blood and blood products. Must not be afraid to be an advocate for your patient, some patients are afraid to tell their providers what they really want so having someone advocate for them or empower their patients to advocate for themselves is important.Are RNs required to titrate drips: YesCommon titratable &/or set rate drips: Occasionally a morphine or fentanyl drip for comfort care patients. Heparin drips that are adjusted per the protocol ordered. Charge Nurse/House Supervisor Does the charge nurse take an assignmentThis unit does not have a designated charge nurse. Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios PCTs. One PCT on the unit per eight patients. There is also a Unit Secretary Monday-Friday.RT Equipment (i.e., Cpap, Bipap, High Flow, Vents): No vents, but yes to occasional BiPap. Yes to HighFlow. We do get patients with tracheostomies that require oxygen and humidity, suctioning and trach Techs on this unit Do nurses read strips We do remote telemetry on our unit. The monitor techs monitor and read the strips and post them to the chart and the nurses must review them every four hours.Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling Block scheduling) 12 hr shifts. 7A-730P/7P-730A. This position will be dayshift. We do utilize the QGenda application for self-scheduling. 4 weeks at a time. Weekend Requirements: One weekend a month (Saturday and Sunday) depending on scheduling and vacations/requests. Holiday Requirements: Will work them into the staff rotation of holidays. Additional Notes: We are a small unit with a small pool of staff who work very well together. Teamwork is a must. The nurse-to-patient ratios are ideal, but sometimes we get some very sick patients that require a lot of attention. We do take care of end of life/comfort care patients frequently, so familiarity with those kinds of patients is preferred.
