Position Overview: The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit invites applications for the position of Federal Public Defender for the Western District of Arkansas, based in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The incumbent Federal Public Defender will retire on January 31, 2025. The appointment is for a term of four years with an annual salary equal to that of the U.S. Attorney for the district, currently $191,900. The Federal Public Defender provides essential federal criminal defense services to indigent individuals.
Qualifications:
- Admitted to practice before the highest court of at least one state.
- Good standing membership in every other state bar of which the applicant is a member.
- Minimum of five years of criminal practice experience, emphasizing significant criminal trial experience.
- Strong administrative expertise.
- Demonstrated reputation for integrity.
- Commitment to providing legal representation to individuals unable to afford counsel.
Responsibilities:
- Provide federal criminal defense services.
- Adhere to judiciary financial disclosure requirements.
- Prohibited from engaging in the private practice of law.
