Job Description
This is a full-time Field Scientist 1 position supporting the Fairfield, NJ, site Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
SUMMARY:
Responsible for collecting, testing, and analysis of environmental samples to include air, soil, water and related materials, which involve knowledge on fundamental field/environmental support policies, regulations, programs and practices while completing appropriate forms, documents and databases. Maintains and troubleshoots equipment related the field operation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provides field services using standard field/environmental support knowledge in the collection and review of conditions, including taking samples, completing test kits, and taking, documenting and communicating results.
- Provides fundamental analysis in support of standard testing materials utilizing standard analytical instrumentation; follows Standard Operating Procedures and methods to perform testing.
- Provides fundamental review, analysis, interpretation and documentation of testing results.
- Performs fundamental maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment.
- Prepares vehicle or truck for daily operations, including documents, kits, supplies, materials, equipment, safety, and related areas.
- Reviews, completes and processes standard degrees of logs, documents, databases, reports, and related materials and information.
- Provides fundamental support in the application and assistance to staff and management regarding field/environmental support policies, programs and practices.
- Provides support researching issues and developing recommendations to resolve employee, management and related customer issues.
- Assists in the review and implementation of field/environmental support policies, practices and programs to meet organizational, operations and management needs.
- Assists with ensuring compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations; receives guidance and direction or escalates when required.
- Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the department's service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team.
- Promotes and supports the overall mission of Pace Analytical by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with customers and staff; acts in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in chemistry or environmental sciences, or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Required Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:
Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in active status without suspension or revocation.

Mobility to work in a lab and office setting, use standard office and lab equipment and stamina to sit for extended periods of time; exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects; vision to read printed materials and computer screens; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in a lab and office setting. Work is subject to chemicals, fumes, gasses, noxious odors, and related items in a lab setting.
