WHAT YOU'LL DO
As our Lead Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining small engines, pickup trucks, trailers, and heavy equipment. Career advancement is available. To succeed, you will need a flexible skill set, including the ability to communicate, work hard, and collaborate.
DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead assistant mechanic(s) performing work including physical labor, using hand tools, and lifting materials;
- Understand project schedules, assume additional responsibilities, and work extended hours as needed to meet project deadlines;
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain small engines, including water pumps and generators;
- Perform diagnostic and repair work on pickup trucks and trailers, including brakes, lights, oil changes, and other essential maintenance tasks;
- Work cohesively with team members to exceed client expectations;
- Maintain equipment daily to ensure it functions properly and safely;
- Maintain quality control, and site safety;
- Research and determine methods and procedures on new or unique assignments in compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory requirements;
- Handle all employee matters with consistency and fairness without discrimination;
- Maintain internal employee communication and engagement through feedback programs, surveys, and one on one meetings;
- Align the work with Helicon's culture and strategic goals — Stay True, Communicate Clearly, Forecast Needs + Outperform; and
- Work with the team on mutually agreed-upon KPIs.
Requirements:
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
MUST HAVES:
- High School diploma, GED or equivalent;
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical repair, with a focus on small engines, pickup trucks, and trailers;
- Heavy equipment mechanical experience is a plus;
- Reliable transportation, valid FL driver's license, and a clean driving record;
- Familiarity with construction project team management and delegation;
- The ability to be coached and mentored and collaborate within a team environment;
- Possess excellent project management skills with the proven ability to drive ideas into action;
- Enjoy thinking strategically to align perspectives, voices, and opinions;
- A good human who cares about all humans;
- Offer excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and meaningful relationships;
- Knowledge of mechanical and repair processes, codes, and standards; and
- Well-organized and able to meet deadlines.

WORK SCHEDULE:
- Varies; will require flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays;
- Local day travel is required; and
- Position requires occasional overtime.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Work near or with moving mechanical parts – Frequently;
- Outdoor weather conditions – Occasionally; and
- Moderate-Loud Noise.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to lift/carry/push or pull - up to 50 pounds;
- Must be able to hear equipment operating, alarms sounding, traffic, telephones; and
- Ability to see clearly at 20 inches/50 centimeters or less and at 20 feet/6 meters or more.
