GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to provide emergency medical instruction to the entire Oconee County Emergency Services Organization. This could include assisting with a comprehensive EMS training program related to safe and effective patient care and emergency services for the employees and volunteers in Oconee County Emergency Services. In addition, the ideal candidate would support the EMS and Rescue Office in providing training for first responders and EMT's. The candidate should be comfortable in both an office environment and in the field. They must be flexible to rapidly changing situations and organizational needs.
This position will support the County Training Officer or Rescue Chief in various training to include; medical care in search and rescue operations; medical and hazardous materials responses; various medical scenarios, and initial EMS classes (EMR/EMT). Responds to emergency medical calls for service, conducts quality assurance and training, and assists in training medically credentialed providers affiliated with Oconee County Emergency Services.
The primary focus of this position is training instruction for the organization/department needs, BLS classes, continuing education, and initial EMS classes as needed.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Assist with design, implement, deliver and maintain a comprehensive EMS training program.
- Attend meetings, trainings, and work group activities.
- Assist with training exercises and public education programs.
- Assist with quality assurance and improvement.
- Assist EMS/Rescue Division as needed.
- Assist in maintaining EMS training equipment and supplies.
- Assist with a comprehensive life safety education program.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an OSHA Fire Brigade Clearance.
- Respond to an array of emergency incidents as needed.

Requirements:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of County ordinances related to the departmental policies and procedures, consensus standards related to emergency services, and state training standards.
- Knowledge of current studies in emergency medical care, SC EMS Portal, National Registry, patient care report writing
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, using correct grammar
- Knowledge of basic human resources policies and procedures;
- Knowledge of basic procurement policies and procedures;
- Moderate to advanced computer and typing skills;
- Ability to mentor and train others;
- Emergency Medical skills;
- Rescue skills;

- Public Education experience;
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- The educational requirement for this position is: High School Diploma. A National Registry of EMT Credential (see required qualifications below).
- Education may be substituted for experience.
- Related-experience required: 3 years.
- Experience may be substituted for education.

- Medical: National Registry EMT
- SC Level 3 Instructor (EMT)
- BLS/CPR Instructor
- Driver/Operator: Emergency Vehicle Driver Training
- Hazardous Materials: Hazardous Materials Awareness
- FEMA Independent Study and Classroom Courses: IS-100 (Introduction to Incident Command System), IS-200 (ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents), ICS-300 (Intermediate ICS for Expanding Incidents), IS-700 (NIMS, An Introduction), and IS-800 (National Response Framework, An Introduction)
Certifications, licenses, professional designations, or other qualifications preferred for this position include:
- National Registry Advanced EMT
- National Registry Paramedic
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- SC Firefighter 1 or higher
- SC Technical Rescue or higher
- Swiftwater Rescue or higher
- Hazardous Materials Operations or higher
