ID: Shift: 12H Days 3 12's per week, rotate every other weekend and major holidays Description: Unit : PCU - Stepdown- # of Beds: 11 (increasing 11-12 beds following ICU expansion. Later 2023)- Ratios: 1 nurse to 4 patients- Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS - Common diagnoses/Types of patients: Post op vascular; hemodynamically stable cardiac dysrhythmias, CVA, Sepsis, Renal patients, Stable acute MI, Unstable angina, Post Cardiac Cath with PCTA or with a significant blockage- Experience: Due to need to float to ICU or Stepdown, ICU skill set is required , Bipap, Cpap, Mechanical Ventilation, telemetry, critical drips, post cardiac cath care required, CRRT and IABP preferred. 1-2 years cricial care experience. - Are RNs required to titrate drips: Yes- Common titratable &/or set rate drips: Insulin, Cardizem, Heparin, Amiodarone, Lose dose Dopamine- Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Charge Nurse ICU as resource for PCU, Charge Nurse assigned in PCU with patients, House Supervisor 24/7- Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios: Yes, one PCT (C.N.A) for 10 patients; however, the nurses assist with general care and unit clerk duties when indicated- RT Equipment: Cpap, Bipap, High flow O2, Mechanical ventilation via Tracheostomy, specialty beds, IV pumps- Is there tele on this unit: Yes there is a Monitor Tech 24/7, RNs read strips- Weekend Requirement: Every other- Holiday Requirement: Rotational- Floating Requirement: Travel staff are required to float to Med-Surg Telemetry if not needed in ICU or Stepdown. Also required to float to the Emergency Department to care for boarded PCU or ICU patients.- Scrub Color/Dress code: RN/LPN - Navy; Techs - Dark Grey/Pewter, scrubs must be solid color, no embroidery and/or patterns on scrubs. WVU Medicine or solid color fleece zip-ups may be worn in grey, black, navy or royal blue. Solid undershirts may be worn in white, grey, or black in matching color to the scrub top. Closed toed shoes only. No crocs.- Unit/Department specific orientation: First day general hospital orientation; Full day of Nursing Orientation for RNs/LPNs; Computer training (1/2 day for C.N.As, full day for nurses); Two, 12 hour orientation shifts with a preceptor; Will receive an abbreviated Initial Skills Checklist due 90 days from start date.
