About the role
PurposeEnergy seeks a highly skilled and experienced Director of Project Engineering who will grow and lead the company’s project engineering team. This team will drive 5 to 10 industrial wastewater treatment facilities per year, valued at $20-50M each, through detailed engineering and construction. As Director, you will define and manage PurposeEnergy’s relationships with third-party engineering firms, design-build firms, and construction management firms with the goal of optimizing the cost and schedule of project delivery. You will collaborate closely with the company’s process engineering team, who will generate a basis-of-design and define the process flow. You will coordinate with the development team, which includes landmen and on-site project managers, as well as the operations team who will commission the projects upon substantial completion.Experience in detailed engineering and construction of process plants is a prerequisite, with special emphasis on wastewater treatment facilities. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on innovative projects and contribute to the development of sustainable resource recovery infrastructure, including pioneering anaerobic biotechnology.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a team to development Issued-For-Construction (IFC) documents by leveraging engineering consultants and/or design-build partners.
- Coordinate with internal process engineers to deliver and integrate PurposeEnergy design documents with design-build partners according to project schedules.
- Develop, document, and implement engineering standards, equipment specifications, and construction details that meet the operational needs of PurposeEnergy.
- Oversee QA/QC of the IFC document package to identify scope gaps and non-compliance with PurposeEnergy standards and specifications.
- Analyze existing processes and facility designs to identify value-engineering opportunities, resulting in improvements in safety, efficiency, robustness, constructability, and lifecycle cost.
- Provide engineering support to construction managers and/or design-build partners during construction.
- Support the Chief Development Officer and Chief Financial Officer by producing investment decision metrics for projects, such as CapEx and OpEx estimates.
- Leverage the procurement team to evaluate and select equipment and components based on project requirements, technical specifications, and delivery schedule.
- Maintain accurate records of project activities, technical data, and design/construction changes.
- Occasional travel to project sites for project planning and construction coordination.
- Support, mentor, and motivate your team to deliver projects with ambitious project development goals.
- Lead and perform interim design reviews.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical, chemical, civil, or related engineering field.
- 10 to 15+ years of experience in project design and engineering, preferably related to municipal/industrial wastewater projects.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, including fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, and materials science.
- Understanding renewable gas upgrading equipment design and specifications is a plus.
- Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) software and engineering analysis tools.
- Ability to read and interpret PFDs, P&IDs, block-flow diagrams, construction drawings and specifications, and other technical documents related to construction of industrial wastewater facilities.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, analytical abilities, attention to detail, and ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing business needs.
- Demonstrated experience making sound engineering decisions that balance operational efficiencies, economic impacts, and schedule of delivery.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility for licensure is preferred; however, this will be evaluated with commensurate experience.
- Experience leading, managing, and motivating teams of engineers.
- Ability to estimate workload and develop schedules.
- Familiarity with process control and automation.
Location and Travel- Based in our Headquarters in Salem, NH.
- Typical travel <20%; up to 35% travel in a given month.
