Description:
The Cytotechnologist will stain, mount, and study cells to detect evidence of cancer, hormonal abnormalities, and other pathological conditions following established standards and practices.
Primary Responsibilities
- Examines cell samples to detect abnormalities in the color, shape, or size of cellular components and patterns. Submits slides with abnormal cell structures to pathologists for further examination. Documents specimens by verifying patients' and specimens' information.
- Prepares and analyzes samples such as smear body fluids and fine needle aspirations (FNAs) to detect abnormal conditions.
- Maintains effective laboratory operations by adhering to standards of specimen collection, preparation, or laboratory safety. Adjusts, maintains, or repairs laboratory equipment such as microscopes.
- Assigns tasks or coordinates task assignments to ensure the adequate performance of laboratory activities.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of principles of biology and medicine.
- Must possess finger dexterity and arm/hand steadiness.
- Must be able to match or detect differences among colors including shades of color and brightness.Ability to understand and follow complex technical instructions, detail-oriented
- Skilled in the operation of standard laboratory equipment and apparatus
