Primary Accountabilities:
This position will be working to develop skills necessary to become a Project Manager or another position within the company that fits the skill set and performance of the Project Engineer. This person will be assisting the Managers and Estimators for both Prairie Band Construction, Inc.in all duties and eventually continue to increase professional skills to match those of a Project Manager. The Project Engineer will be tasked with many key construction and outfitting pieces of a project. This position requires occasional travel to project jobsites on the government bases, the government military bases or installations. To be allowed entry to the jobsites on the government bases, the government must authorize employees for base access. To authorize access, the government will check for a clear background screening and ensure possession of valid, current driver's license. Due to this, anyone in this position must have a clean background check and a valid, current driver's license. This position will report to the Project Manager they are working with on the project and Senior Leadership when applicable.
Major Duties:
- Rotate through departments completing various assignments to acclimate self with technical skills and daily essentials to complete all necessary job functions. Will be asked to perform duties to assist with projects in any department, such as on field, in estimating or project management.
- Assist the project managers in project decisions, including compiling, updating, and maintaining project schedules and budgets. Must know how to produce construction schedules, including project phasing and cost loading.
- Assist project superintendent and other field staff with coordination and communication to the design team and or project subcontractor's and vendors to meet the projects installation needs.
- Create, process and distribute construction documents including subcontracts, meeting notes, RFI's, change orders, payment applications and proposal requests.
- Acts as the main communication hub; coordinate, problem solve and disseminate documents to the appropriate project team members through the appropriate project hierarchy of communication to meet expectations. Will manage all projects and/or estimating documents that pertain to the job.
- Various clerical duties including scanning, filing, and copying, mailing, printing and making travel arrangements as needed, will work in Microsoft office extensively.
- Support the project team by becoming an integrated part of the delivery team to provide a single clear, accurate and responsible solution to the owner's needs.
- Assist in interpreting project specifications and document scopes and assist in writing and negotiating contracts. Will draft contracts to subcontractors.
- Will use personal knowledge of construction, project management and outfitting knowledge to not only become proactive in locating project deficiencies and risks but offering constructive solutions to mitigate risks from delivery of the project.
- Will act as the main point of contact at the project site located at Prairie Band Casino & Resort and will communicate/interact regularly with executive leadership personnel of the casino/hotel staff.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in construction or related industry OR 2 years of construction or outfitting/transition related experience. Preference to high grades during studies or positive performance reviews/referrals.
- Familiar with project management skills
- Above average internal and external communication skills
- Proficient with Microsoft suite
- Excellent problem-solving skills that show a logical process to decision making
- Must demonstrate commercial construction industry knowledge while performing job duties.
- Demonstrates a strong work ethic and a professional attitude towards colleagues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, attentive to details
- Highly proficient in time management, organization, planning, and prioritization

Physical Demands:
- Ability to travel for extended hours and periods at a time. Travel is potentially required 25% of the job. While on job sites, will be subject to indoor and outdoor environments and could be exposed to hazardous materials and loud noises. This person might be required to cover for Project Superintendent on sites as required on temporary basis and/or for training in the field periodically.
- Subject to stooping, grasping, handling, and climbing while visiting jobsites.
- Ability to navigate through a construction site.
- Ability to communicate in person by phone and electronically.
- Ability to moderately lift up to ten (50) pounds.
Work Environment:
- Professional and deadline-oriented environment in an office setting.
- Interaction with staff, vendors and customers regularly.
- Project site temporary office located at project site in Mayetta, KS.
