Job Description
Danfoss Turbocor Compressors Inc, a leading-edge technology company in Tallahassee, Florida, is looking for a senior lab engineer in the R&D Department with a desire to excel in a technically challenging environment. Our products are high speed, oil-free refrigeration compressors using magnetic bearings, variable speed direct drive and digital control technologies. The senior engineer in R&D lab is responsible to lead the efforts of developing new technologies for test equipment and new methodologies for compressor testing as well as compressor test data analysis and evaluation. The senior engineer's responsibilities also include mentoring and guiding junior lab engineers and technicians in daily testing and engineering activities.
Job Responsibilities
Plan, develop and direct experimental test programs
Review and approve test requests from engineers
Execute compressor performance and reliability related tests
Analyze test data to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications
Maintain/upgrade existing lab procedures and standard, and generate new ones as needed
Preventive maintenance of all test equipment, including calibration
Improve existing lab equipment for better efficiency and reliability
Design and develop new test equipment to meet the requirements from product development road map
Develop lab new technologies and test methodologies
Plan projects for lab and chiller plant upgrades and expansions. Planning includes but is not limited to specification, safety requirements, resources, risk assessments, schedule and financial planning.
Lead lab projects from planning to acceptance testing and closeout
Maintain timely and accurate documentation of all project deliverables, including but not limited to governance, design and validation tests.
Provide mentorship and guidance for junior engineers and technicians in daily testing and engineering practices
Research for best practices and emerging technologies in industry which apply to the lab operation.
Other duties
Analyze supplier test equipment specifications and evaluate their capabilities in meeting current and future testing requirements.
Provides technical support to the Engineering organization in developing long-range chiller plant and R&D Test Lab engineering plans.
Collaborate with technical teams in the evaluation and design of systems which support R&D test programs.
Prepare comprehensive technical design reports.
Evaluate the performance of existing systems, identify targeted upgrades, and prepare justification reports with recommendations.
Develop system layout and detailed drawings and schematics consistent with the infrastructure upgrades.
Responsible for maintaining a clean, safe and orderly workplace.
Responsible for complying with safety policy, procedures and instructions.

Background & Skills
BS Engineering with 5-10 years relevant experiences
In depth knowledge in both theory and engineering practices of testing equipment, processes and methodologies, etc.
Knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid dynamics
Strong knowledge/experience of HVAC/Refrigeration system including compressors
General knowledge of materials, electrical circuit, sensors and programming
Strong communication skills in multi-culture environment
Strong leadership skills
Willing to learn new technologies and skills
Strong hands-on capability
PREFERRED:
MS in Engineering with 3+ years of relevant experience
Education or experience in turbomachinery
Experience with 3D CAD tools
Project Management experience
Proficient in MS Office & Project
Familiar with data processing with Excel and Access
LabView or PLC programming knowledge/experience.
