Job Summary
Performs MR scanning as directed by the radiologist. Communicates with the physician and other work-related personnel appropriately.

Accountabilities
CLINICAL: Screens patients and others prior to admittance into MRI scanning room. Ensures all MRI clinical equipment and supplies are MRI compatible. Emphasizes patient safety practices. Identifies patients and procedures. Ensures all information is present in patient folder/EMR chart. Completes appropriate MR questionnaires. Uses proper hand hygiene technique. Follows established contrast administration protocol to ensure safe contrast administration. Positions patients accurately for all MR procedures for optimum visibility of required anatomy. Knows and adheres to protocol regarding patients with cardiac pacemakers. Selects proper surface coils and applies knowledge of and adheres to scanning protocols. Marks studies ready to read in PACS in a timely manner for interpretation as soon as possible after completion of exam. Obtains appropriate supplies and prepares room for patient. Injects contrast material using proper technique based on type of contrast needed for the particular body part and size of the patient. Obtains any contrast reaction history and monitors for and responds appropriately to any contrast reaction. Initiates IV access for contrast administration. Applies proper sterile technique. Is proficient using power injector or manually injecting contrast material via IV access. Keeps room cleaned and stocked at all times and maintains safe environment of care. Responds to codes and other emergency situations appropriately. Participates in QC activities. 40%
CUSTOMER SERVICE: Communicates with patient concerning MR questionnaire and other pertinent clinical history. Explains MR procedure to patient and/or family member. Obtains completed questionnaire and proper history and clinical from patient physician's office. Ensures patients and / or visitors are free of objects or implanted devices that might be contradicted to MRI. Informs patients and families of all delays. Appropriately documents release of PHI. Trains co-workers and students. Promotes patient education. Participates in QA activities. 30%
ADMINISTRATIVE: Acquires requisition and validates appropriate clinical charge. Completes all EPIC exam activities, and document and / or scans appropriate information. Charges procedure, supply and surgical codes when exam is completed. Operates the PAC's system appropriately and verifies studies before sending to archive. Reports equipment problems to manager and documents confirmation numbers. Maintains teaching files. Communicates with radiologist to determine appropriate protocols for each exam. Ensures scan conducted and exam name correspond in EPIC EMR, PACS, and charges. Performs accreditation activities and meets standards and regulations. Maintains technologist credential records. Maintains SCDHEC/accreditation/compliance manual. 30%

Minimum Requirements
Associate's degree with completion of accredited radiology program
1 year diagnostic radiology, enrollment in MR preferred
