The Large Military Combat Engines Systems Engineering team directly impacts the GE Aerospace mission by driving the holistic strategic plan for the Engine Level Model including closure on safety issues, engine configuration, airframe integration requirements aligned to customer airworthiness qualification, maintenance plan, Field Investigation and Test Objectives, sustaining product & growth strategies, while inventing next generation engine platforms through Sustainable Technology insertions.
In this role you will drive comprehensive systems technology leadership activities for the F110/F101/J-85/TF-34 family of engines and advanced programs. Candidate will be working with cross-functional teams such as design, testing, field integration, engine controls, aero-thermal, performance, operability, manufacturing, etc.
This position is located on-site in Evendale, OH.
Job Description Roles and Responsibilities
- Drives and owns the synergy of technology insertions, Cost Out (Design Hardware related and apply LEAN based processes) while working closely with internal and external customers, and cross functional teams to ensure addressing design related technology-based trade off studies related to the cross-sectional development of the engine architecture , aligned to sound return of investments.
- Collaborate with the broader large military engineering section and cross-functional teams, including program/projects, component improvement programs (CIP), etc. to engage, navigate and collectively develop and innovative advanced technology-based design concepts, while meeting aggressive engine product line requirements.
- The Systems Tech leader will ensure thorough compiling and documenting of resulting invention disclosures to protect GE technology and intellectual property rights of the company. Ensure the timely and high-quality execution of the required systems-based analysis / evaluation of assigned projects that meet business standards, practices and procedures and the product / program requirements. Establish cadence towards monitoring and communicating project health, business issues and significant developments to leadership. Develop proactive action plans to anticipate challenges and identify sustainable mitigations. Apply the usage of proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and / or tasks consistent with GE engineering policies and procedures.
- Conducts component and product integration. All activities that span multiple components and products and are concerned with how to integrate for maximum performance and operability. Manages product and systems requirements, specifications, and flow down. Drives validation and verification activities for the overall product/system, including system level testing. Responsible for defining product requirements for the module / component / subcontractors and partners teams. Manages interface between components and execution organizations.
Responsible for driving Critical-To-Quality (CTQ) / Risk trades within the teams designing the components. Manages the overall product configuration and configuration control system. - Requires specialized knowledge within the function. Influence the development of strategy for the area of responsibility, including control of resources and influences policy formulation.
- Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes, or services. Stays informed of industry trends that may inform work.
- Uses high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering. Has ability to assess quality of information given and ask pertinent questions to stakeholders. Able to offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and is able to construct and provide recommendations. Uses multiple internal and some external sources outside of own function to help arrive at a decision.
- May lead functional teams or projects with minimal resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Communicates difficult concepts and may influence others' options on particular topics. May guide others to consider a different point of view.
- Owns technology insertion charter and roadmap, leads and drives Cost Out (design hardware related) and applies LEAN based processes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, or aeronautical engineering from an accredited university or college
- Minimum of 8 years' experience in aerospace industry
- Minimum of 5 years experience in engine systems engineering
