Job Description
Identifies needs, plans and implements educational programs for patients, families and staff in the clinical specialty of psychiatry. Participate in planning and provisions of selected orientation, in-service and continuing education programs related to psychosocial issues of staff, patients and families. Assists staff in developing the skills required for identification of potential patient behavioral management problems.
- LIAISON SERVICES: Provides professional nursing care to patients/families in need of psychiatric consultation liaison nursing services. Screens all consult requests (verbal and written) received to determine patients for whom a direct interview/assessment is indicated and conducts a direct interview/assessment with patients/families. Demonstrates effective assessment, interviewing and psychotherapy skills and documents assessment and plan of care in the patient's medical record. Provides ongoing interventions and evaluation of care for a caseload of patients and makes appropriate referrals for assessment and/or ongoing care to others, including psychiatrists, social services, spiritual care, substance abuse, or supportive care. Serves as facilitator of support groups for patients and/or family members. In consultation with the physician staff, makes appropriate medication recommendations for treatment of patients. Communicates proactively to the health care team plan of care, changes in patient condition, the patient progress, the discharge plan and other relevant information and documents appropriately.
- TEAMWORK & FISCAL ACCOUNTABILITY: Maintains a positive and professional attitude with co-workers, patients, families/significant others, medical staff, volunteers, and visitors. Maintains and uses material, supplies and equipment in a cost effective manner and contributes ideas for cost reductions or improved efficiency without sacrificing quality. Participates in the orientation and training of other healthcare team members and performs as a clinical instructor/preceptor when necessary. Assists with development of goals, policies, standards and plan of service for the department and coordinates related activities as needed.
Qualifications
Education * Master's Degree (Required) Certification / Licensure / Registration *BLS Certification (Required) *State Registered Nurse License (Required) Adult Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing. (Preferred)
