Position Overview:
This is a solution and problem-solving environment. Designers are responsible for completing design projects by utilizing supplied software, hardware, and materials. Coordinating with Graphics, Sales, Customer Service and Manufacturing to develop cost effective, manufacturable, corrugated designs that meet or exceed customer expectations.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for problem solving, developing, sampling, and testing packaging to meet customer needs utilizing supplied software, equipment, and materials.
- Designs include point-of-purchase, protective, E-commerce, signage or multi material solutions.
- Work closely with Sales to collect and process information to meet customer objectives.
- Travels to customers as needed for project completion and to help build customer relations.
- Maintain detailed specifications , and documentation.
- Learn and remain competent in the capabilities and limitations of our manufacturing equipment.
- Stay current with Retail guidelines (Walmart, Aldi, Home Depot).
- Stay current with relative testing protocols such as Hazmat, ISTA, Amazon, Club Stores.
- Manages individual workload of assigned projects using project management software.
- Timely completion of projects to satisfy internal and external clients.
- Support Customer Service and Manufacturing in processing new item orders to ensure first time runs are satisfactory to the customer.
- Adequately understands manufacturing capabilities to effectively route designs with collaboration from production.
- Keep work Areas clean and organized for safety and aesthetic purposes.
- Complies with Green Bay Packaging - WI Sheet Plants policies and procedures.
- Addition responsibilities assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- Must have 8 to 10 years of packaging and/or product design experience.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with retailer specifications, print production, and manufacturing process.
- Utilize expertise and knowledge of corrugated facility and machinery, board combinations, retailers' wants and needs, and customer's capabilities to facilitate product design.
- You will act as a creative and practical liaison with internal and external clients to gather and translate requirements and specification data to conceptualize and create packaging that meets customer's needs and expectations.
- Works directly with sales, project managers and customers to create designs in the Artios CAD Design program, solicit and incorporate customer feedback, and create prototypes for customer approval.
- Produce product design documentation such as concept sketches, technical drawings, and illustrations that define and communicate design intent.
- Collaborate with manufacturing personnel to review and discuss new product designs, answer design questions, ensure that products are manufacturable, and incorporate revisions to the design based on feedback from the manufacturing team.
- Ability to travel as needed to customers and our regional divisional sites as needed to support the design development process.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Four-year degree in Packaging, Design or Engineering or five years of experience in corrugated structural design.
The following are PREFERRED, but not required:
- Prior work experience in the corrugated industry.
- Familiar with Artios CAD or similar software.
- Familiar with Tops or CAPE Palletizing Software.
- Familiar with Solid Works or other solid modeling software.
