Huntsman Mental Health Foundation (HMHF) is a 501(c)(3) organization that raises funds from individuals, corporations, private foundations, and public sources to support the mission of the Huntsman Mental Health Institute (HMHI) and other organizations committed to supporting educators, researchers, and clinicians to shine a light on mental health and bring dignity and quality care to the children, adolescents, and adults and families we serve every day.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
Marketing and communications driver toward raising funds. This is a dynamic leadership role with the Huntsman Mental Health Foundation (HMHF) and will work collaboratively with the Huntsman Mental Heal Health Institute (HMHI) and the Marketing & Communications department of the University of Utah Health Sciences (UUHS).
The AVP of Marketing & Communications will manage and coordinate communications strategies for HMHF as it relates to donor and external communications; this will include building a national communications plan. The AVP will manage and mentor a talented team of marketing and communications professionals who will develop and implement comprehensive marketing and communications plans designed to increase understanding and awareness of HMHF among external constituents and donors. They will develop and maintain comprehensive communications strategy and calendar for all external marketing and communications initiatives; manage an annual marketing and brand budget for HMHF.
Creates content creation (image and video catalog, commercials, blogs, donor/grateful patient & family stories, press releases, etc.) and social media strategy; oversee and implement external communications needs, including emails and drafts for the CEO of HMHF, all HMHF leadership and departments; oversee the production of marketing and communication materials e-newsletters, brochures, program flyers, website content, social media, e-blasts, news releases and alerts, press kits, videos, community award/recognitions; maintain and advocate for all creative content and established strategies of the Brand Book across all communications, events, posts and publications; set goals and outline strategies to grow awareness, drive donor interests, and define metrics to track marketing and communications results; and mentor and supervise junior team members. Will coordinate with the University of Utah, U of U Health, and HMHI marketing and communications teams.
The AVP of Marketing & Communications will be an energetic, intellectually curious leader who can inspire and mentor a team and articulate both the strategic communications goals behind the programs they oversee. They will possess a healthy balance of skills including strong people management and a solid understanding and execution of budget management and metrics. The ideal candidate will be able to inspire others to identify, create, and execute on well thought out marketing objectives, strategies and tactics that incorporate the latest inbound, content marketing elements to leverage the full potential of HMHF’s unique intellectual and operating assets.
The successful candidate will possess a hybrid creative problem solving and data-driven mindset. They will establish the Foundation’s deployment of engaging, high quality content across various channels including blogs, audio platforms, social media, syndicated content, email, print, radio, video, and TV campaigns. They will define and socialize a content-oriented communications strategy and operationalize best practices for audience definition/segmentation channel distribution. This position will report to Huntsman Mental Health Foundation, while also meeting and collaborating regularly with HMHI and the U of U Health Marketing and Communications team.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
- Primary focus: decision filter and capturing funds
- Ensure your team is supporting all teams with content creation, branded material, digital and print creation, and event communications.
- Directs the development and implementation of marketing and communications objectives that are consistent with the mission, vision and values of HMHF.
- Develop and implement strategic external marketing including advertising and media buys to promote philanthropic support as well as the achievements and accolades of HMHF.
- Leads all aspects of the HMHF annual report, as well as coordinate the strategic distribution of this report to the appropriate constituencies.
- Develop media campaigns utilizing multiple media forums, advising development of effective communication strategies to external constituents.
- Provides strategic direction by setting short and long-term goals, estimating budgetary requirements for staff, space, and equipment planning, and implementing special projects and policies.
- Work collaborative with marketing and communications professionals at HMHI and the University of Utah.
- Forecasts staffing, capital and operating budget needs in evaluating and reporting on market sensitivity, financial analysis, space utilization review, staff performance evaluation, etc.
- Ensures competency of management/supervisory staff through the development and/or presentation of educational programs and through on-going staff performance evaluation.
- Facilitates cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships.
- Coordinate and lead Ad Council Campaign work.
- In partnership with HMHF leaders and departments, create marketing pieces for philanthropic efforts (annual report, stewardship reports, etc.); lead efforts to create materials that engage donors.
- Oversee all solicitations and collateral materials for fundraising efforts for branding and messaging.
- Lead content strategy for fundraising solicitations and collateral materials for fundraising events.
- Ensure coordination between clinical marketing and HMHF to ensure consistency in brand presence and messaging.
- Partner with the CEO of HMHF on the development and implementation of the marketing and communications budget for HMHF.
- Other duties and special projects as assigned.
Problem Solving
Incumbents in this position have the authority to manage assigned units and designated programs and services. They are responsible for ensuring that diverse patient/customer, family, and community issues affecting customer/patient service and care are resolved. Directs the planning and administration of the unit’s budget and makes spending decisions within budget guidelines. Oversees program development for assigned units and ensures that policies and procedures are followed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related area, or equivalency;
- Eight years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communications skills required.
- Experience in fundraising communications is preferred.
- High proficiency in project management, attention to detail, prioritization of work and organizational skills required.
- High competence in computer programs, web-based content management systems and applications, and digital/social media platforms.
