Digital Organizer
We see communications as a critical component of organizing and are seeking a Digital Organizer who can bring forth creative ideas, create and deliver engaging content across digital platforms, provide accessible political education, and expand our base by building our online following. The position is ideally based in Chicago, IL. The role requires regular travel, an estimated 25% of the time, based on active campaigns and organizational needs. The salary for this position ranges from $55,000 to $60,000, with an exact salary depending on experience. We also offer excellent benefits such as 100% employer-sponsored health, dental, and vision insurance as well as a retirement plan and 3% matching. Also, paid time off, vacation and sick days are offered. We close between December 25 – January 1 for reflection and rejuvenation.
NAKASEC staff are represented by the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), and the Digital Organizer is a member of the group of employees represented by the Union. Salary and benefits are defined in the bargaining agreement. Staff members are expected to work in the office at least two days/week.

Founded by local community-based organizations in 1994, NAKASEC’s mission is to organize Korean and Asian Americans to achieve social, racial, and economic justice. NAKASEC is a network of affiliates and partners, and our base is multilingual and multigenerational. Through political education, community organizing, direct action, public policy advocacy, and civic participation, the NAKASEC network ensures that our most marginalized community members can impact progressive change rooted in our values. We are a small team within a large network and work closely with each other and our affiliates to reach our objectives. We work to resist racism, patriarchy, homophobia, classism, ableism, and other forms of structural and institutional oppression within and through our work.
NAKASEC is a leading Asian American organization advocating for progressive systemic change at the local, state and federal levels. NAKASEC’s affiliates are HANA Center (Illinois), Woori Center (Pennsylvania), MinKwon Center for Community Action (New York/New Jersey), Hamkae Center (Virginia), and Woori Juntos (Texas).
What you will Do
The Digital Organizer, who is based in Chicago, IL, and reports to the NAKASEC Communications Manager, is responsible for the following:
Online Community Building and Management (40%)
- Identify and act on opportunities digitally to grow NAKASEC’s base across digital platforms, including email, text, and social media platforms.
- Create and manage digital campaigns and online organizing opportunities that advance NAKASEC’s mission.
- Lead social media promotion and coverage of NAKASEC network events, programs, and activities.
- Support development and execution of virtual programming, including webinars, Facebook and IG lives, online meetings, and others of 2-100 people.
- Manage and maintain NAKASEC’s digital tools, including email, SMS broadcast, peer-to-peer texting, social media, and websites.
- Connect digital inquiries to local affiliates for organizing.
Digital Content Development (40%)
- Develop compelling and timely written and visual content (including graphics and videos) that may be multilingual to amplify organizing, electoral, and fundraising work on social media, email, text, and other digital platforms.
- Write/design and disseminate emails and action alerts.
- Coordinate with translators and interpreters to create multilingual content.
- Develop messaging and scripts to accompany organizing/fundraising campaigns and use and maintain Everyaction to target and text supporters while providing appropriate follow-up.
- Maintain and build upon NAKASEC website and associated forms with updates about NAKASEC and online petitions/campaigns. Ensure ease of navigation, message consistency and clarity, relevance, and visitor engagement opportunities.
- Evaluate outcomes of digital communications and adapt messaging/outreach based on findings.
- Respond to relevant queries on NAKASEC’s online platforms.
Data Collection and Reporting (10%)
- Archive and organize digital content and data across platforms.
- Make meaning of internal data and make and act on recommendations on improvements and experiments toward organizational objectives.
Other Responsibilities (10%)
- Attend weekly staff meetings and annual staff retreats.
- Work and collaborate with NAKASEC’s fundraising, communications, organizing teams, affiliates, and coalition partners.
- Participate in year-round organizing, civic engagement, and fundraising campaigns with the rest of the NAKASEC team.
- Other duties as assigned.
Who You Are & Keys to Success (the Must-haves)
- 1+ years experience in digital organizing.
- Strong understanding and enjoyment of social media.
- Strong writing skills.
- Strong understanding of issues facing and commitment to working with the Asian American community and other marginalized communities including people of color, women, and LGBTQIA2+ community members.
- Able to manage and complete day-to-day tasks and work independently.
- Can work well within and build a team.
- Able to work some evenings and weekends and travel. Expected to travel 25% of the time as needed.
- Able to work long periods at a desk and computer.
- Lives or willing to relocate near a local affiliate required.
- Bilingual in English and an Asian language preferred.
- Experience with Wordpress and/or HTML preferred.
