Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Director of Faith Formation & Safe Environment Coordinator to oversee the Parish Catechesis. The Ideal candidate will provide professional leadership, direction, catechesis, and related services to all who support and all who sign up for any of the Faith Formation programs at St. Thomas Aquinas. This position collaborates with the faith formation team, other staff, other volunteers, parents of students and the students themselves to ensure the precepts of the Catholic Faith are being shared to the best of the teams' abilities and funding.
Specific Responsibilities
1. Provide professional leadership in planning and directing parish Faith Formation Programs.
2. Coordinate registration for all faith formation programs (in person and online)
3. Interact and communicate effectively with other staff members regarding faith formation schedule and issues.
4. Serve as a faith formation advocate to parish members, committees, and organizations.
5. Chair Faith Formation Committee, including recruitment of members and facilitation of monthly meetings during the school year, assuring that minutes are provided to the Parish Pastoral Council and Business Administrator.
6. Cooperatively plan special social events as determined in the planning for the year.
7. Coordinate curriculums for different programs and age groups in accordance with Archdiocesan Religions Standards for Catholic Education.
8. Develop curriculum supplements and activities for church seasons, curriculum themes, etc., as appropriate.
9. Be present for all faith formation sessions and provide large group leadership as determined in the planning for the year.
10. Recruit, train and provide support for all catechists and facilitators.
11. Provide for planning and purchasing of all supplies and materials needed.
12. Coordinate and follow up on room set-ups and clean-ups.
13. Provide OPCY training 2 times a year for students.
14. Attend Archdiocese workshops and seminars as needed.
First Reconciliation and First Eucharist Programs
1. Develop and coordinate curriculum supplements and activities.
2. Serve as the program leader and lead catechist.
3. Recruit, train and provide support for program catechists and facilitators.
4. Conduct a parent orientation meeting.
5. Ensure contact and involvement of the Pastor during the preparation process.
6. Provide for planning and purchase of associated materials and supplies.
7. Schedule first reconciliation with pastor.
8. Schedule first eucharist Mass for parish.
Confirmation Program
1. Develop and coordinate curriculum.
2. Recruit, train and provide support for catechist(s) and facilitator(s).
3. Ensure students are prepared for confirmation.
4. Organize volunteer opportunities for confirmation students.
5. Reserve spot at confirmation Mass at Cathedral.
Liturgy of The Word
1. Organize and schedule weekly liturgy of the word for children ages 3 to 10 years during school year.
2. Recruit and train volunteers.
Vacation Bible School
1. Select and acquire curriculum.
2. Develop lesson plan supplements and materials, as appropriate.
3. Coordinate registration.
4. Recruit, train and schedule adult and teen leaders
5. Coordinate facilities and other requirements for delivery of the program.
6. Be present for all vacation bible school sessions.
Communications
1. Write articles/announcements for the weekly bulletin and eblast.
2. Provide input for announcements at the end of masses, as appropriate.
3. Be available to parishioners via phone, email and office.
4. Attend weekly staff meetings and give program updates.
Training and Continuing Education
1. Keep up to date with Virtus training.
2. Keep up to date with Catholic Mutual online training.
3. Attend Archdiocese workshops and seminars as agreed upon with the Pastor and Business Administrator.
Qualifications, Requirements and Demands of Position
Education and Experience Qualifications
1. Bachelor's degree in Religious Education, theology or general education preferred.
2. 2 Years or more experience in a church or school setting as a teacher or catechist.
3. Demonstrate understanding and acceptance of Catholic Doctrine
4. Computer skills
