The Director, Strategic Communications for Philadelphia Soccer 2026 requires a strong knowledge of the media landscape, as well as leadership skills to manage multiple agencies on a day-to-day basis. Closely adhering to budgets and timelines, the Director, Strategic Communications role entails serving as a media liaison for the organization, managing and delegating workflow and reviewing materials before sending to Senior Leadership and/or the Board of Directors. Additionally, this role will require direct engagement with FIFA Media Relations, strategic message development, rapid response, management of media relations inquiries, proactive pitching (if/when appropriate), speaker preparation, and brand management.
What Are We Looking For?
- Strong knowledge of media landscape, consistently offering thoughtful, strategic guidance on pitching efforts and ensure the team achieves media coverage goals.
- Lead efforts to develop media strategies for new initiatives throughout the year
- Oversee media material development, writing press releases, pitches, media alerts, etc.
- Demonstrate a true understanding of organizational goals/objectives and how to leverage media relations and key messaging to achieve them.
- Build strong relationships with FIFA and the media, becoming a trusted partner and resource for storytelling
- Demonstrate strategic thinking and provide creative solutions
- Create internal and external budgets, timelines and strategic direction for new and existing initiatives with oversight from senior leadership
- Prepare presentations, messaging, and other materials as needed for Senior Leadership speaking engagements.
- Serve as a point of contact for on-site events when applicable
- Report to Chief External Affairs Officer
Let’s Start With:
- 5-8 years of public relations experience with strong comprehension of strategic media relations approaches
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills and extensive experience drafting and editing materials
- Critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills
- Excellent project management, budgeting, organization and agency management skills
- Ability to work successfully with teams on multiple projects under tight deadlines
- Proven leadership ability with the ability to be responsive and nimble based on evolving situations.
- Press event management and execution experience is required.
