Job description
The Driver Trainer position is responsible for the training and development of CDL and non-CDL licensed drivers on operations of all CMV's (Commercial Motor Vehicle). The trainer will have the ability to instill a safe driving culture through inside and outside classroom experiences.
Minimum Qualifications and Skills:
- High School diploma or GED
- Class A or B Commercial Driver License with Medical Card
- Previous experience in the recycling and waste industry preferred.
- Experience in facilitating and developing CDL training programs.
- ability to conduct Pre- and Post-Trip procedures for various commercial vehicles.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills to be able to communicate effectively and professionally within and outside the company.
- A working knowledge of the Department of Transportation (DOT) and OSHA rules and regulations.
- Ability to demonstrate Lock-out/Tag-out procedures.
- Computer skills: working knowledge of Office 365 and its applications.
- Valid DL
- Ability to travel from one location to another.
- Kowledge and understanding of the mechanical functions of a commercial vehicle.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads classroom, yard, and road programs for both Class A and B CDL holders in several types of waste and refuse hauling vehicles.
- Instructs how to prepare DMR forms for any maintenance needs on fleet vehicles and how to communicate those needs to the maintenance department.
- Develops and implements various maneuverability courses on and off site for trainees.
- Monitors trainee progress and identifies additional training needs.
- Performs evaluations of new and current drivers through checklists and observations, while documenting progress and creating action plans for driver improvement.
- Conducts route observations with drivers to further coach and develop driver skills.
- Travels to various company sites to facilitate training and development of all drivers.
- Trains and implements all aspects of Company Policy outlined in handbook with trainees.
- Develops training and remedial driving programs.
- Ability to adapt to changing situations.
- Maintains up-to-date training documents and procedures.
- Must be able to plan, implement, and report changes of processes efficiently within each location.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisors to maintain and facilitate daily operations.
