In this role you will work closely with the neurosurgical team members. You and your team members will develop and enhance significant specialized skills that can best be honed in a specialized team like ours.
Your duties as a neurosurgical nurse may include meeting with patients and their families prior to surgery to explain the procedure that will so greatly affect them/their loved ones. You will supervise room setup including getting the high-tech equipment ready for the surgeon to use during the procedure.
At times you will scrub in, actively assisting in the surgery itself. At other times you will run the room as a circulating nurse making sure that everything is prepared for the particular procedure being performed.
You will participate in spine and head surgery, including trauma affecting both these areas, as well as for stroke victims, where seconds are precious to the best possible medical outcome. After the surgery you will supervise transition of the patient to the post-operative care departments.
