Site Of Service
- The work to be performed under this contract will be at Camp Grayling, Grayling Michigan 49738.
- HCWs shall receive notification two weeks prior to the reassignment to another location.
Position Qualification/Requirements
- Degree: Certificate
- Education: Completion of a certified nursing assistant program
- Certification: Must maintain current hands-on BLS certification through ARC or AHA
- Experience: One year of experience as a certified nursing assistant after graduation
- U.S. Citizenship: HCWs performing under this contract shall be U.S. citizens.
- Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to effectively communicate.
- Shall be physically capable of standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time and physically capable of performing all services required under the contract.
Specific Duties
- Performs a variety of basic nursing care duties involving extensive standardized
procedures in the providing of personal care to patients, and serves as a chaperone as
required. Assists with the maintenance of medical records to include filing, adding
demographic information and filling out lab, x-ray and EKG slips. Duties are performed in clinics and/or wards depending on the needs of the service or ward.
- Provides basic nursing care to patients with a variety of illnesses and in a variety of health care settings. Takes and records blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, height and weight. Measures and records intake and output; and gives routine care to pre and post-operative, ante- and post-partum patients. Applies and removes binders, bandages, simple dressings and heat and cold as directed. Assists patients in walking, moving and changing positions and prevents obstruction, dislodgment, and unnecessary movement of drainage, suction, and parenteral fluid apparatus. Assesses pain as “fifth vital sign”.
- Recognizes and initiates appropriate life saving measures in emergency situations. Applies Basic Life Support (BLS) techniques as required.
- Sets up for examinations, to include equipment and supplies needed and positioning and
draping of patients and assists with exams, medical/surgical procedures. Assists in
postmortem care, transports patients in wheelchairs or on litters within the hospital, and
accompanies ambulatory patients within hospital. Motivates patients to accept the illness
and provides patient instruction as directed by unit standard operating procedures.
Operates and maintains equipment peculiar to the work area.
- Provides patient care as assigned to include documentation of nursing activities in patient’s record.
Monitors intravenous fluids, obtains routine specimens, screens and performs procedures
for treatment of patients within guidelines established in each area.
- Provides personal care to include bathing, shaving, rubbing backs, feeding, and making
equipment and supplies available to patients such as bedpans, linen, and grooming items.
Makes beds and performs general maintenance duties including cleaning and arranging
supply cupboards; cleaning and sorting supplies, instruments, and equipment; calling
attention to deficiencies in supplies and equipment; cleaning utility room; handling linen
according to policies; and cleaning patient units and exam areas as needed.
- Performs administrative and clerical functions such as checking in and routing soldiers to
different screening and processing stations. Will also assist with screening, filing and
retrieval of medical records and forms.
Core Duties
- Prepare examination rooms prior to patient's arrival.
- Assist with patient check-ins, admissions, discharges, and transfers as directed.
- Check patient's vital signs, to include temperature, respiration, pulse, weight and blood
pressure.
- Obtain and document patient's current medical history, drug history, chief complaints,
allergies and vital signs on the correct form.
- Perform diagnostic procedures when ordered.
- Maintain examination room stock levels and perform routine maintenance of examination
rooms.
- Complete lab and x-ray requisitions in accordance with clinic policies.
- Enter demographic data into the computer upon patient check-in; enter diagnosis and
departing time when patient is released
Hours
- The performance hours of the MTF are as follows: Monday through Sunday, between the hours 0700 – 1630, with a half hour unpaid lunch.
- Workdays and hours may be modified due to mission changes at the worksite.
Special Requirements/Skills
Must be comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Must be able and willing to reprioritize on short notice and work on multiple simultaneous projects. Flexible and able to work with various personalities. Team work skills required. Time management skills required. The ability to meet deadlines in a deadline intensive environment is essential. High level of adaptability and willingness to embrace change in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
