Job Description
Performs nursing duties, providing direct patient care in a safe and effective manner that promotes quality patient outcomes. Performs clinical apheresis procedures in accordance with established policies, procedures, and regulations. These procedures may include, but are not limited to, red cell exchanges, plasma exchanges, platelet white cell reductions, photopheresis and hematopoietic progenitor cell collections. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. Performs all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures, Safety Quality Identity Potency Purity (SQUIPP), regulations outlined in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Clinical Laboratory Information Act (CLIA), College of American Pathologists (CAP), American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT), Joint Commission (JCAHO), and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Experience
- BSN with two years of clinical experience (3,000 hrs.) OR ADN with three years’ experience (4,500 hrs.)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing
- Experience in extracorporeal procedures in neonatal and/or pediatric care setting preferred
Education
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred; ADN with experience considered
Certification Summary
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the single State of Georgia or Multi-State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact
- BLS certification required within 30 days of hire
- PALS certification within one year of hire date
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Completes orientation and Initial Assessment of Competency successfully by determined due date
- Completes mandatory education and annual competency assessment requirements as defined by unit and system by due date
- 75% attendance at staff meetings, if applicable
Job Responsibilities
Practice (Caring for the Patient)
- Performs apheresis procedures, emergency management, and bedside clinical care under the direction of the apheresis physician.
- Participates in scheduling patient procedures.
- Integrates values and language preferences into healthcare delivery through a culturally sensitive process.
- Utilizes clinical decision support tools and resources to recognize issues, prioritize care, and modify plan of care as needed.
- Utilizes appropriate documentation tools to record, measure, and retrieve healthcare data.
- Provides patient and family education appropriate for identified learning needs.
- Utilizes resources to plan and provide nursing care that is safe, effective, and financially responsible.

- Participates in lifelong learning to maintain knowledge and competence that reflects current nursing practice.
- Maintains professional records that provide evidence of competence and learning.
- Self-evaluates professional practice in relation to performance, development, resiliency, and goals.
